So HL2 and HL2dm say I have DirectX 9.0 hardware. However, CS:S says I have DirectX 8.1 hardware, bear in mind im running an X800 Pro. It never used to do this till after i installed Catalyst 5.2, and since 5.2 sucks balls, i reverted to 5.1 but it still says that im running on DirectX 8.1 hardware. I went so far as to delete the CS:S local game content and the folder all together. Do any of you have this issue? Thanks for the input. Have a good one.

Well you installed the 5.2's and that was a known issue with them. So run Driver cleaner and re-install the 5.1's again.

Some fragments of the 5.2's are still on your machine.

so i uninstall my the 5.1s, boot into safe mode, run driver cleaner twice, reboot, run it twice again, boot into normal mode, install the 5.1s, reboot, load CS:S and it stills says ive got directx 8.1 hardware. But when i check my HL2 settings, it says i have DirectX 9.0. This has gotta be a bug in CS:S

Any suggestions on how to fix it?!

I really think it still has something to do with the 5.2's and CS. I know this might be a pain in the ass but maybe try this. Backup your game file through steam. Then uninstall steam and everything. Download Steam again and double click on your back-up's of the game files you made through steam. I know re-installing this can be a pain in the ass but I really don't have any other idea as to how to solve this.

Make sure you back-up your HL2 save files if you have them. HL save files as well.

Other wise I really don't know how to sove this one. My games say 9.0 for both HL2 and CS:S.

I thought of that as well, but if i back up CS:S it might still have that bug, ill just back up HL2. Thanks for the [H]elp. Later.

why dont you just force it to run level 9, right click css i steam menu, select properties, launch options, and type -dxlevel 90

What is the word? Have you gotten it reinstalled?

Yeah, i ended up just unistalling steam and redownloading everything, still it doest run at DX9.

Maduag, Ill try that, and thanks for the tip.

Maduag you are T3H BEST!! CS:S is now running at DX9. Problem solved. Thanks for the help guys. Laters.

Hey maduag, i have that launch property set, although, whenever i close it down and launch it again, it resets everything. Anyway to fix this?

I've seen threads on editing an *.ini file..... Let me try and find it... I need to redeem myself. I feel bad you uninstalled everything and started over. :(

Dude dont worry, CS:S is running at DX9 and by removing the lauch command, my settings are still intact, although i cant connect to any servers, it says my user.cfg or something cant be read and it says that it writes it (this is all in console btw) and it also says that it cant load/find the voice.speex file and that voice is disabled. Anywho, i deleted CS:S again and ill redownload and see what happens.
