its a long post but i'll make it as short as i can. back in Jan my gf bought me a Dell 2407fpw monitor, it was great for web surfing, DVD ect but kinda sucked for gaming (at least for CS which is what i mainly play) most people said it was my system, my video card/cpu couldn't keep up with that size monitor so i lived with it. my old system was

Athlon XP 3200
2 GB DDR
Radeon 9700 Pro
Win XP MCE 2005
Dell 2407

but i have since upgraded

C2D E6600
2 GB DDR2
Geforce 8800GTS 640MB
Win XP MCE 2005
Dell 2407

and i swear gaming has gotten worse. the action is blurry, when i'm standing still everything looks amazing but when i move it all blurs together and looks terrible. i've forced v-sync on, used reforce.exe to cap my refresh at 60, enabled triple buffering ect ect. everything i can think of. all drivers are updated on a fresh windows install. what am i missing here? if i can't get this fixed i'm going to go back my 21 inch crt

what resolution are you running at? If you tone that down does it look better? How many FPS are you getting? Maybe there is a problem with the monitor..? Those parts are more than enough to run cs source at high resolutions.

probably needs to be calibrated
and also your machine probably can't run native res

What? Lol? You know a Radeon 9700 can run 1920x1200 just fine in 2D and games. Lmao the 9800Pro I have runs CS:S almost wonderfully at 1680x1050 on a Pentium 4 3.4GHz PC.

well WTF just take it back to the store and get another one
If its a color thing try calibrating it
it makes a big diffrence

Geforce 8800GTS 640MB will run 1920x1200 no problem. Are you running the game at native res? What is your fps? I owned a 2405fpw and it was not fun to play twitch games on. There was noticeable blurring and video lag.

i have tried every res and i still get the same thing, its super blurry in game. fraps says i'm getting a steady 60fps. i'm thinking its the monitor and i would send it back but i've already had it 6 months. will Dell still take it back?

Try these....

cl_showfps 1
fps_max 200
cl_updaterate 101
cl_weather 0
developer 1

ok i tried those commands and its a little better. i installed Farcry and its alot better than CS (or at least i think it is) but i don't want to play Farcry, i want to play CS. i don't think i've calibrated this monitor. easy to do? anyone got a link to a FAQ or something?

I dont think CS supports widescreen, and i just found out nvidia let you make the Dell 24 in into a 4:3 monitor. in the view section of the nvidia control panel. I think this will help. or you can quit CS and play CS:S :) plays a lot better with newer computers

Source supports wide screen 16:9 and 16:10. I use 16:9 for my LCD tv, but I believe 16:10 should be used for the pc monitor in question. Also, no one said a 5ms response time was bad, that's perfectly fine I have an 8ms response and all is well.

EDIT: I'm assuming we are talking about CS: Source and not CS 1.6 because that'd be a bit ridiculous. I just upgraded to an E6600 and 2 gigs of DDR2 with my same old 7600 GT OC video card and I get an average of over 100 FPS for CS:S at 1366 X 768 or (whatever the closest resolution is) at max settings.

Actually, both CS:S and 1.6 support widescreen resolutions. Source adds additional viewing area to the FOV whereas CS simply crops the top off a 4:3 screen with the same horizontal resolution. Both do include native support though and they should be options in the video menu.

i have had it with this monitor, i'm going to try sending it back to get a replacement. any tips on what to say when i talk to the Dell people?
