I've heard some people actually like to play these games at lower resoloutions... anyone have any preference?

Mine's not low... but I play at 1280x1024, 8x AF, 4x AA, all high.

Hm. That's not even close to what you were asking about.

i play cs and css at 800x600 because if i play any higher it messes with my aim
well 1600x1200 works well too but my monitor only does 60hz at that rez so F that
its all about the aspect ratio and what yur used to

Why would you want to play it at lower Res it doesnt really do much in performance wise I mean and it looks way wierd, well in my opinion.

Same here lol.

Even for Day of Defeat Source and HL2 Deathmacth.

some peeps feel they can aim better cuz they can see closer to the enemy at lower res. I used to do that too with ut2004/03, and it did help me. Others will because they cant play at good rates at higher resolutions anyway,

 edit...lol...we were typing at the same time.

Damn you bet me!!!.

Yeah i've tried it both ways.. I suck both ways, but personally I prefer the better picture.

In CS1.6: 800x600 no AA/AF
cl_crosshair_size small
cl_crosshair_color "255 0 255"
cl_crosshair_translucent 0

I don't play Source.

1920x1200 4XMSAA Gamma Corrected. :D I don't even need a sniper rifle, just my ak. with cl_crosshairscale 3000 and solid colored crosshairs I can belt out HS's across dust2 with ease. I run DOD:S at the same res/AA. And while it says that it's running at a lower framerate (slightly) it alwasy seems smoother, it's weird.

Forgot, my crosshair is scaled to 2000, but at 12x10, 2k is pretty much the same as 3000, except it actually expands when I fire. Helps me to control recoil on the occassion that I spray.

Im in the crowd of people that run at 1024x768 because I *believe* it makes me aim better.. Its probably because Im so used to that res.. I mean, I played old school CS from beta 2ish or something stupid like that up until Source came out, with the crappiest computer you could think of, so I had to run low resolutions.. When you play a game that long, you tend to get used to how certain things are setup and if somethings changed, it can ruin everything. I've ran Source at 1280x1024, but I dont fiddle with the console commands enuff to beable to readjust so I just run at 1024x768 for Source..

Back when I played CS 1.5/1.6 seriously, I played at 800x600 with a bunch of tweaks. Now, I play CS:S at 1280x1024, untweaked (except for removing the rain, cause that just annoys me)

I play at 10x7 no AA, 4xAF, because my monitor's native res in 10x7. I believe that keeping your framerate above 60 helps in fast twitch multiplayer games, so no AA either. :)

EDIT: We were typing at teh same time Isaacav2

I play using 1280x960 2x AA 4x AF everything extra high.
I used to play 1280x800 WS 2xAA 4xAF everything extra high for the widescreen perspective but I prefer the full monitor at 4:3 now. The only reason why I would want to run the game at 1024x768 is for the higher refreshrate, so I could game at 100hz as apposed to the 75hz at 1280x960 resolution.

if you guys dont mind sharing a few of the legal tweaks you guys use in CS:S.

I play the game at 1600x1200 with everything maxed out. and in general get about 15-25 kills every map, but there are some guys that get like 32-45 kills per map and i want to know what kind of tweaks they use. also what the hell is choke in CS:S.

thanx

Those guys play CS:S 24/7, drink a lot of caffeinated beverages, and probably have a nice mouse/mousing surface combo.

Don't get mad if I'm wrong someone who knows, but I believe choke is the restriction of the packets as they are sent, resulting in lag or choppy gameplay. Also, some tweaks, though it's not a tweak really I have a Razer Diamondback on a god-knows-what glowy mousepad.
I'll post portions of my config, because I can't think of them off the top of my head, also, I have a text file that list EVERY Cvar in CS:S if you want that (weighs in at 174kb).

cl_updaterate "100"
cl_cmdrate "100"
cl_crosshairscale "2000"
cl_downloadfilter "nosounds" (<- Prevents sounds from being downloaded from servers)
r_mmx2 "1" ( )
r_3dnow "1" ( For CPU's that support it )
r_mmx "1" ( )

Well dammit. I re-installed CS:S recently and it removed the sound tweaks I had, nothing stupid like stopsound it just ajusted the mixahead values and etc.
