Crysis 2 Is a PC Game First, Console Game Second, Claims Crytek

Crytek's goal was to bring a PC game to consoles, says Crysis 2's executive producer.

Crysis 2 might have taken the series multi-platform, but Crytek's Nathan Camarillo says the studio hasn't "consolified" it for the new audience on the Xbox 360 and PS3. Camarillo says that Crysis 2 is a PC game made to fit on a console, not the other way round.

Speaking in a video interview with Games.On.Net, Camarillo said that Crytek wanted to bring a Crysis-like gameplay experience to consoles - something he thought that it lacked - and that fundamentally meant that the PC had to be the primary platform. That goal, he said, was one of the motivating factors behind the creation of CryEngine 3. He said that Crytek had torn apart the engine that the first Crysis had run on, and rebuilt it so that it could scale more easily on consoles.

This new engine also meant that PC users could get the best out of their hardware. Players with a low-end PC could still enjoy the game - something that couldn't be said about the first Crysis - but those with the really powerful computers could turn everything up to maximum and see the fruits of their investment. This is obviously good news for PC gamers, especially those who feel like they're being sidelined by the larger console demographic.

Crysis 2 is already out in North America, and comes out for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 tomorrow in Europe and Australia.

Yep, that's pretty much the proof that they're just full of shit. I've never liked that bunch, really. Arrogant.
If they loved PC gamers, Crysis 2 would've been DX11 on release.

I can understand why a developer might think focusing on consoles is good business. I don't agree, but I can understand.

What grinds me up is these guys who make the jump to consoles and then pay lip service to the PC platform. Being lied to is such an insult. Just be honest: you want money, it costs tens of millions of dollars to make these kinds of games, the only way you can imagine recouping the investment is hitting it big with the Xbox crowd, and so that's the focus now. Get it on Xbox. Make it good for Xbox.

I'd respect devs a lot more if they were straight up and admitted that Xbox was the focus, and that they'll do their best to make sure the PC version isn't a total piece of shit.

Totally agree with you there. Just tell us like it is. Crytek, don't piss on us PC gamers and try to tell us it's raining and that you'll patch it later. :)

I wouldn't be nearly as pissed if it actually had graphic settings comparable to the first game.

What tears me up the most is that its PC gamers that put Crytec on the map! We were the ones raving about the graphics, building rigs that could max it out and paying it lip service all over the internet. And how are we repayed? $60 for DX9.

Kinda funny that review sites have only gotten the Xbox version to review. Review sites have said that they had to buy the PC and PS3 versions on release day just to do reviews for those version, that's why there are Xbox reviews everywhere and hardly any reviews for the other platforms as of now. That is a huge red flag right there saying that the game was made for the Xbox platform and ported to the others.

3 general video options and 55 fov and dx9? They have to be joking

you can fix things in the config files ofc, but thats no excuse to screw unsuspecting pc customers unfamiliar with that

Mhm. The way I look at it its inexcusable for a big budget release not to have advanced graphics options. You should never be forced to go into an ini or .cfg file to fix shit. Leave it there for people who want to fine tune things, alter some specific settings, play around with other things, but don't force people to use it because you're too fucking lazy to include correct settings in the damn game.

I hope they will include options ingame when they release their dx11 patch. How hard can it be to make a bunch of options in a menu, if you can do them manually in the console already

If they release the DX11 patch. Crytek has a very poor history with that stuff.

Lets be honest, this isn't about "PC vs Console." It's about "$1500+ PC vs. Everyone else, including all the lesser PCs."

I have a high end rig, but a lot of folks don't.

There is bullshit, and then bullshit that is piled unbelievably high and is so fresh its got steam coming off of it. Guess which kind of bullshit Crytek is trying to shovel down our throats?

I have to fully disagree with that statement. Use the menu options and play the game. Consolitis is what Crytek has. Scaling graphics down is easy. Scaling the gameplay, input, and map creation down is all about consoles.

Thats why there are graphics settings. If you can't run it at max, drop performance. That is the way it has always been. I had a 8800GTS 320 when Crysis 1 came out, I didn't have a problem with having to fine tune settings to make it perform good.

The really runny, squicky, seml-gelatinous kind of bullshit?

I think I need to go grab a clothes pin it smells so bad in here. brb

Of course Crytek loves PC gamers... loves to bend them over the preverbal barrel, while they are fucking them up the arse with their 12 inch console hard on, all the time drinking the tears of PC gamers.

Ever wondered why they are called CRY-tek, they make PC gamers cry! :p

I dunno I think its called Crytek cause all they do is whine.

Most bullshit Ive heard all week, why can't people just speak the truth from start to finish for once. They say PC gamers whine, but what do you say to something like this?

I'll buy that Crytek, sure.

Also, I'm gonna pistol-whip the next guy who says "shenanigans"

The real reason Crysis 2 doesn't have DX11 support at launch is because nVidia paid EA/Crytek $2 million for exclusive DX11 support for their cards, to be launch later today/tomorrow.

Lol Kitguru. Remind me when any of their "exclusive" rumors has been true?

Well, today the 24 March, 2011. Crysis was released on Tuesday...The 590 GTX was released today...Where is the DirectX 11 version of Crysis? I don't see it...

Those Kitguru articles are from November 2010, 5 months back....

If they do not, I will explore the possibility of bringing a class action lawsuit. I am an attorney and I will run the case myself.

I would love to see that. Sadly they could probably just claim they didn't have the time or resources to do it or play the piracy card and bitch about low sales.

They better not come crying in a month or two that xbox sold better then pc... idiots.

Actually, I am pretty sure that is what they want. One more reason to ditch PC all together and just shovel shit out.

I stopped caring about Crysis and the company that makes it when they said they would not be patching/updating the original Crysis. "Hey guys sorry about your 15 fps, but no patch, thanks for the cash."
