Although no real details are available at this time, word is that Crytek is planning on a low-cost development kit like Epic's UDK.

"We have a business model in mind for this--which I can't get into details of right now--but it will be extremely user-friendly," Yerli said. "The barriers for entry will be very low, and perhaps even for free. Of course this will be compared to UDK and Unity and so on, but we think this sort of competition is very good for the community."

yeah maybe somebody can take it and make a better game than they've been putting. Wouldn't be too difficult.

P.S. FU you crytek I want my FarCry 2 time back. Should get Crysis 2 for free just for beating that POS

Unrelated Products.

Hopefully some indie dev will put the engine capabilities to better use

It's about time. Unreal Development Kit has been available easily for indie devs for a long time, so if they're serious about licensing their engine out more this had to be done.

Crytek is planning a low-cost version of its Crysis 2-powering CryEngine, akin to Epic's Unreal Development Kit, company co-founder Avni Yerli has told Develop. While there are no concrete details for now, it's good to hear.
AKA CryEngine 3.

Do not want.

the MWLL team has been doing it on Cryengine2 for a long time now....but with limitations due to licensing restrictions and no access to source

I was wondering if I'd have to post that. Huge shame that they don't have access to CryEngine 2. At the rate the chaps at MWLL are working, Smith and Tinker won't have a game worth playing (multiplayer wise) by the time the next Mechwarrior comes out.

Shame MWLL doesn't have access to the source. I want my night vision/infrared vision/image enhancement engaged.

You know, CryTek, indie developers would be a lot more interested in this engine, wink wink, if you added in well-formed dx11 support and a great way to work on that might via adding directx 11 to your crappy console port for the pc you did with a recent game.... wink wink hint hint hint. Make Crysis 2 the game it was suppose to be!

next time you are in your mech hit "i" as in infrared, there's your night vision

having a good engine isn't about having the best graphics. It's about having the best graphics that you can have that the majority of us can experience. Screw their crap games (including the steaming pile that was the first far cry, I don't care what any of you say it was beyond terrible) and screw their crap engine.
