CryTek 2 Engine Video (AMAZING)

oooo I like the plant movement :D

I was thinking about moving to the 7800GT, but now i just may wait a little while longer for something else to power that baby.

Would dual GTXs run this?

Its highly probably that the development machines are SLI machines.
At the GeForce Lan 2 presentation developers were touting the benefits
of SLI as a means of guaging how powerfull machines in the future would
be when their game actually ships.

hopefully they are gonna be supporting ageia chips.

IMHO I think support is going to happen via patches.

No, you need a WGF2.0 compatible card.

that nvidia list shows WGF 1.0 compatible cards.. WGF 2.0 is a whole different architecture that we will see in new cards in about 1 year

If you really need a WGF2.0 compatible card then you can either assume one of two things :

a) this engine will not be seen in a game for at least 3 years.

b) CryTek just wants to shoot themselves in the foot by releasing a game on an engine that less than 10% of the market will be able to play.

If you dont believe me... find me one game coming out in the next 4 months that will REQUIRE you to have SSE3 (A64 or Prescott) and a Geforce 7 series GPU. The answer is NONE, developers do not try to alienate buyers by requiring them to upgrade their machines.

But it worked for Origin and Wing/Strike Commander back in the day. :) But you're hopefully *knock on wood* right. I'd hate to think my current new system is going to be a POS to play that. I really don't ever want to spend that much on a video card again. (he says to himself)

Ah man that sunset was just amazing. The destructable enviroments looked sick as fuck as well. Can't wait for stuff like this to become a reality.

why would you compare SSE3 to DirectX? DX is ever evolving eye candy and the main force in every game because it is infact the engine, and its a huge marketing point for games and ATI/Nvidia. Not to mention these game companies get access to the API and its tools quite a bit before it may go live. It wont take but a matter of months after its released to see games supporting it. DX10 will also be out for WinXP....so i really dont see alienation here. Lastly, 10% of the market comment, Direct X has always and will remain backward compatable. Im sure there will be support for the game going all the way back to at least cards released 2 years ago at the games launch, so hopefully it will be a bit more then 10%.

Honostly, what do you want them to do? Still use DX8 today even though it was outdated over 2 years ago just to please everyone everywhere? Your way of thinking would halt game and hardware development completely.

What I want to know is who can afford this stuff? Even $1000 for an xbox 360 is starting to look acceptable (except that I'd buy a ps3 first) compared to the amount you spend to keep a PC up to date. That and I'm begining to lose faith in PC games as there just aren't a lot of interesting PC games being released lately, especially compared to consoles. Maybe I just miss the old days when games were just games.

I feel as though I may be in the same boat as you. The draw towards console gaming has become ever stronger as of recent ($399 for hardware you know will work flawlessly and without hassle for years to come compared to hardware you spend $500 - $1000 a year on. Even with that, you are not guaranteed that game will run flawlessly on your system). PC gaming will always be my first love, but the cost, ease and peace of mind consoles can give interests me even further in these times.

yeah, the soft shadows looks amazing.. but to be honest, i wont enable this option. For the performance hit you get. It does not balance well with end result, fancy looking shadows that you really wont notice unless your stop and stare at them..

not bashing it or anything, IT DOES LOOK AMAZING!!

The day and night scene was sweet too!

Good point. That is definitely pure eye candy that will not enhance gameplay. IMO

yeah yeah.. the sun moves, the plants move, the shadows move, the clouds are realistic, people look like people, the buildings are properly destructable and maybe they will even add realtime weather and HDR.....

but there is nothing less immersive in a visceral, hardcore action game than shooting someone w/ a rocket or grenade and they just fall over or bounce around.

why is it so goddamned hard to implement realistic damage to people, the tech has been around for ages and if it was put in using all of the advanced shaders and stuff that we have now it would be simply amazing

when i shoot a guy w/ a .50BMG and all he gets is a little red on his shirt there is something wrong, i know what would really happen, youre not fooling anyone

just throw in the option to turn it on and off then you wont have any complaints from all the squeamish little girlies who want to play a war game but dont want to see any blood

so, pretty much add soldier of furtune + fry cry = best game ever :p

Its not just a few games though, PC has 10x more games than any other console, probably combined. And almost all of them with the proper hardware completely own their console counterparts

The local dump has 10x more stuff than I do too. ;)

My point that I was after is more personal I guess. The games that I have bought this past year numbered 4 for the PC. BF2 (sold it a week later), UT2k4 (play it on the weekends...maybe), and MVP Baseball 2005 (haven't played it in a month), and the Bronze STEAM package (I actually play CSS every other day).

Granted, my console purchase for games in the past year was only double, but looking down the line...AOE3 and QUAKE and maybe PREY are the only PC games I am looking at.

For me, it isn't worth the money to upgrade for just a few AAA titles that come out every year. The latest BOB the Builder doesn't use HDR or soft-shadows, but to get the full expierence of a FarCry2 or UT2k7...I'm not going to spend another 500 dollars to just play that game or two when nothing else I use on my system will benifit from the video upgrade.

But it is reality. Just drive a truck into the side of a building and you'll see! :D :p

maybe i'm stupid (don't think so) but that video looked like something that could easily be done now, in direct x 9. the only "amazing" thing about it was the super high resness of everything, normal maps, textures, etc. looks like something you'd need a 512mb card for definatley, but not the "next generation" of direct x api. unless the next gen is just a refresh...which judging by how the pc graphics industry works, i wouldn"t be suprised. lets hear it for baby steps!!

OMFG. And stuff.

So yeah, the interactive plants, tree shadows, and driving through a building are totally awesome. I want this yesterday.

Not really.

So in your "mind" to be a "Hard gamer" one simply has to spend money.

Wow. With that "thinking" you could run for captain of your short bus.

Thats not what I said, you have a knack for twisting peoples words.
What I meant was a hardcore gamer will do whats necessary to play the games he wants to play, when UT2007 comes out I sure as hell will want to play it, so what will I do? Upgrade my system until I can. I won't let trivial things like money get in the way of my hobby (though I guess if money were an issue I might see things different, I dunno)

You really need to learn the cocept of "contextual".

Anyway..you just further validated what I said. You think "Hard" is spending money, and only spending money.

Also, it is possibly just me, but that video looked a lot like the visuals in the Xbox360 game THE OUTFIT. Very very similar.

dont ruin the thread dude.

This game looks awesome, but what interests me is all the talk of the add on physics chip (blanking on the name). It seems to me much more likely that the thing will be programmed to utilize dual core, possible putting much of the physics load on the second core. What makes me inclined to say this is that amd and intel expect almost all of the market to be dual core by some time in 2006, and Im guessing that software companies are encouraged by AMD and Intel to make games that will buy their newer products.

Anyways, please correct me if Im wrong about the second core in computers taking the place of the extra physics chip.

:p Comedy gold.

Of course, he falls back to the insenuated "You're poor but I'm not and money isn't an issue" remarks that further vindicate my opinion that PC gamers are elitists and nothing more.

Really now. Insenuating that people who don't upgrade with the release of every new card are avoiding doing so because of money is just stupid. Some people like to spend their money in logical ways where they'll see results that matter. Wasting $600 on a bleeding-edge card so you can do nothing more than claim that you now have 100+ FPS instead of 60 FPS is just a pathetic pissing contest.

Perhaps I am not a slave to money and don't bow down before it and do what it tells me I can do and not do what it tells me I cant do

Take it to the PM's if you want. I am not posting any more in this thread about what you are trying to talk about. psst....I am postitive that only a brain-dead sea sponge could follow what you are trying to say.

Anyway, the I am waiting for a higher-rez video to get a better sense of what it will be like for games running that engine.

That is what I don't get. If you take a look at some of the bench marks...the top of the line cards today...in today's games can't even handle them with out slow downs. So what is the sense in spending all the money on an "upgrade" when it can't even handle the games?

Hmm, I wasn't blown off my feet. Maybe it's because of the poor quality video.

Didn't they have interactive plants just like those back in the first hitman, during the jungle missions? They weren't perfect, but moved pretty similar around your character.

This game looks more impressive in my opinion.

I don't know what all the arguing is about but I am anxiously awaiting this game/technology. Looks great to me.
