Crysis Top End rig - poor performance

I'm about to re-install Vista 64 in hopes of gaining the best possible performance in Crysis (see sig for comp) and I need to know what tweak guides and general performance guides [H]ardgamers use to tweak their systems with from scratch. I see others getting much better performance as me even after following and doing the Crysis guides and other minor Vista tweaks.

Tweakguides has a Vista pdf guide 250 pages long but about 200 of those pages just general info and nothing to do with improving performance.
Is there another Vista 64 tweak guide exclusive besides the 250 page guide?

What guides or links are out there for boosting general system performance as well as Vista/64 specific guides?

I'd like to see who is getting 40 FPS on very high at 1920x1200.

Me too. Ain't happening - I've got an 8800GTX OC'd and an E6600 @ 3.4Ghz @ 1920x1200. I don't get anywhere near 40FPS. Certainly not in the later parts of the game. That's with no AA/AF.

Those folks are fibbing. They might get a peak close to 40 FPS....maybe...

Either way.. I know theres some Vista tweaking guides. That 250 page one is overkill.

Links please.

in DX10 the only way to get the frames at max eye candy would be sli or CF

Simple tweak guide for Vista. Turn off UAC, install all the latest drivers and Windows updates. Done and done. Go play and have fun.

Is there a reason you are running Vista 64-bit instead or 32-bit, or say, XP? Because your best tweak for Vista is to install XP instead.

Hold it, hold the fucking phone. I don't want to get into another pissing contest over which OS is better but lets not get down to this. Unless the OP states that he/she wants to use XP or Vista or Linux or Mac OSX then never states another OS again! Right now we need to focus on what we can do to get her copy to work as efficiently as possible!

Back to business; the only thing that comes to my mind is to run it in 64-bit mode (provided that you have it), and in DX9 mode, and/or create your own Autoexec.cfg file to dial down some settings but keep those that you really like.

My $.02

Another person who couldnt get vista to run......... :p

I dont think that is what the OP asked for...

Lol. Did anyone read my post?

I'm not having any major problems with Vista or Crysis. I noticed I was getting a couple less fps than other people due to which I thought was not doing system tweaking like previous versions of windows after installation. (I coudln't find any Vista ones.)

XP and 98 had several good performance tweaking guides that majorly increase performance where you go through windows and change settings and shut down proccesses ect and you get a huge boost in games.

For Vista the only guide found was 250 Pages long..There has to be some guides but maybe it's too young.

I found this guide but it's so vauge it doesn't even explain where to find the settings it's showing.

It's probably my fault this post should have been labled "VISTA TWEAK GUIDEs-WHERE?" I just want a Vista tweak guide to barebones gaming my system like previous versions of Windows.

Somebody help him? anybody? I am installing vista64 tomorrow on my new rig, if my parts come, so I am interested myself :p.

Bump.

I posted in the Overclocking section because I figure overclockers know how to squeeze every drop of performance out of their systems.

No Vista users use a performance tweaking guide for changing windows settings after installation?

Turn off Aero. Turn off UAC. Latest drivers (as of right now 169.17). All the hotfixes -- there are about 8-10 anymore, and I don't know that they auto-download through Windows Update, either. Turn off window fading and all that other crap. That's about all I've ever bothered to do with it. Tweak guides are generally overrated -- if you start turning off services things have a nasty tendency to stop working properly in the long run. If you hardware is fast enough, it really doesn't matter. All that stuff only does something worthwhile when you're just scraping by to being with.

All the tweaking in the world generally doens't seem to add up to that much performance in Windows. I tweak for personal preferences and to maximize storage space. (I reduce recycle bin size or disable the bin completely.)

As for Crysis, well let me say that the highest end rigs of today aren't delivering impressive performance in Crysis. Don't expect that you will either. As it stands my machine has to run Crysis at 1680x1050 with no AA and no AF running most settings on Very High except for shadows which I have turned down to Medium. I may have one or two other things set to High instead of Very High and even then I get 23-55fps. Usually I get around 33FPS average which keeps me happy.

I'd rather drop the resolution and keep everything as high quality as possible. Even though 1680x1050 looks like shit on my monitor it is better than 1920x1200 or 2560x1600 with everything set to medium or low settings as far as I am concerned.

Turning off Aero shouldn't help performance outside of possibly improving memory usage. Aero uses your video card primarily so that actually means your processor and other resources are more available than they would be with Aero disabled. I've personally found Aero to be snappeir and more responsive than the classic interface. UAC is just annoying so I'm with you on that one. I totally agree on that last part.

Another thing I noticed I got much better overclocking performance from my card when I overclocked the card through flashing the bios as most all utilities are pretty flaky in vista 64.

Unfortunately flashing voids pretty much all warranties. I've not had any problems with the last few versions of RivaTuner under Vista 64bit.

really, not one tweak will help you gain that much performance - it wont make framerate drop below 40

there is not one software tweak that can do that (unless you cut down on details in the game itself)

the only thing that would help is getting a SLI or buying a next gen dx10 card (gf9xxx series that are due out in the spring hopefully)

it was the same thing with oblivion and fear games

no one could play those games at full details without stuttering

people just had to wait for next gen of video cards

you already have a beast of a PC and really i dont think there is a tweak that could make it more powerfull any more

I just finished installing Vista fresh.. overlocked Q6600 to 3ghz, my 8800 ultra OC'd to 700mhz/1140mhz, and holy crap.

Crysis runs all settings on very high except shaders/shadows to medium @ 1920x1200 rez at a constant 30-40+ fps. It looks way better than just high settings I can't believe how much of a difference very high makes. I havn't fine tuned the autoexec via the Crysis graphics tweaks I just wanted to see how it looks and you're right, for now nothing else needs tweaking. Yeehaw : D

I'm a bit worried about my graphics card burning too hot.

First couple of levels can do very high fairly well. Performance takes a nosedive after a while though.

Those cards get hot. There is almost nothing you can do about that short of water cooling it or using a more extreme form of cooling. Don't worry those cards are designed to run hot and it will be fine.

you have the same exact build i am building this week once the parts arrive, have you had any trouble with it?

also the ultra 120 fits just fine into the antec 900?
