Crysis Review

it wasn't opened ended at all, just open-area'd which isn't the same.
I just thought it was overhyped. I guess im stupid or don't get FPS's because I think that.
the graphics though at the time were not overhyped IMO.

i disagree, the graphics are overhyped. even on very high it doesnt look like any of the E3 videos we have seen. infact its not even close to that type of realism

The game is overhyped the graphics are great.

I found the game play to be very repetitive and the suite useless. While people say the suit IS necessary on Hard/Delta, on Easy and Normal the suit is usually all but useless.

If Farcry had a super suit I'd feel like I was playing that instead.

There is nothing except the graphics in Crysis that makes it stand out amongst any other shooter out there right now.

Speaking for myself, sure, I love open-ended gameplay as much as the next guy. Having the freedom to make choices in a game is great. But that, or the fact it came from a "no-name developer", or that it had beautiful graphics, still doesn't make of up for any of Farcry's shortcomings I listed above.

To me those "broke" the gameplay just enough to prevent me from enjoying the game fully.

I'm looking for a game to immerse me into it's story and setting - and if it takes a linear, yet wonderfully cinematic game like CoD 4 or Bioshock to do it, then sign me up.

Judging from the demo, Crysis' AI does seem much improved over Farcry's. So I'm hoping for some good times with it. I'm keeping my expectations grounded though.

Funny to think that people compared Crysis to Bioshock hehe

Man, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who has their senses about them.

Seriously, even comparing CoD4 to Crysis is like comparing a fucking Pinto to a Shelby Mustang. There's no comparison.

There's too much "fanboi-ism" going on with CoD4, which is obvious when someone looks at a game such as Crysis - the phenomenal visuals, immense interactivity, incredible open-ended environments which has never been done in an FPS like this, immersiveness due to gameplay/action/story/gameplay and even atmosphere in places, AI which is for the most part the smartest and most realistic to date, and generally open and extremely varied gameplay that's topped-off by the abilities of the nanosuit which is far from being just a "novelty" - yet some actually state that it has "nothing new" to offer?

I don't know what worlds of astounding ignorance in which some people live, but remind me never to visit. I'm no "fanboi" of anything, and if it's deserving of praise, I give it, but it's ridiculous that people "down" Crysis about things you'd have to be blind and half-retarded to miss... then compare it to CoD4, of all things, which is actually far overrated from all aspects. The visuals are bland as is the gameplay, and that's an objective opinion.

Like someone else has stated, with incredible as HL2 was, you're still on rails, essentially.

Any "ire" behind this post is due to the fact that I'm entirely sick of completely inaccurate judgments that are the furthest thing from reality, such as with some people and Crysis, which offers everything far above anything else in current times.

It's just disgusting (and astounding) how so many in the human race can have such a lack of appreciation for an actual work of art. The old saying of "there's no pleasing everyone" has been pushed to simply a ludicrous level. It's to the point in this world that you could hand someone a bar of gold and they'd complain that it's too big to put in their pocket, hence useless. Are you fucking kidding?

Eh, what's the use... those of us who more than three working brain cells and enough maturity, depth and experience to truly see and appreciate things for what they are, will have an experience that others will miss out on. They're loss. It's just a shame that so many today base their lives more on skewed opinions and perspectives than actually being able to see something for what it is.

The same can be said about Crysis and the way seems you feel make it bit fanboyish...Almost to the point its getting annoying Like HALO crap. personally I was kinda let down by the demo for it being boring. I sure hope the full game is better. I enjoyed COD4 ALOT..who cares if u cant go 50miles one way to get to your point. Who cares if you cant break 1 bottle or box. There where some intense battles that wtf did you even worry about a box or bottle to break.
I think Crysis built up all its hype and showed everyone OHHH look how pretty..BUT we are not gonna give you that cause we made the game to much for anything now and you have to wait. Why didnt they just wait till the 9 series cards are out to even release this game. So far This seems like a polished Farcry with some breakable trees. I am sure all the people who feel crysis is the god game are going to think i am insane and stupid.
OHHH and to make it clear. I was extremely excited about Crysis for a long time. Before the demo was out I was updating the countdown every few hrs. Ants in pants excitement. So before you reply saying I want to much. My change in feelings is mainly because the demo was kinda letdown and boring. Plus the way people act about crysis makes me almost get annoyed with it.

A game might be called an FPS but that doesn't mean that it can be easily compared to another FPS. This is the case with Crysis and Call of Duty 4. Personally, I love both games, and that is because I play them for what they are.

If you are into the Battlefield type games, you will appreciate Crysis for the vast environments and the new abilities available, it's pretty much like playing a BF type game where you don't have to rely on vehicles as much, because you've got the suit.

Call of Duty 4 is focused on putting you in the action, IW strives to make the game feel intense and cinematic.

Now it's getting fun :)
I don't know what worlds of astounding ignorance in which some people live, but remind me never to visit.
Differing opinion is ignorance? Are you kin to zamardii, by any chance? Am I, are we, without brains or sense because we don't share the same opinion of a game?

Like someone else has stated, with incredible as HL2 was, you're still on rails, essentially.
So...?

It's to the point in this world that you could hand someone a bar of gold and they'd complain that it's too big to put in their pocket, hence useless.
EA isn't handing you Crysis -- you're buying it. That's a mountain of a difference. You blow $50 on a ~seven hour thrill, you're entitled to have an opinion about it, whatever that opinion may be.

Eh, what's the use... those of us who more than three working brain cells and enough maturity, depth and experience to truly see and appreciate things for what they are, will have an experience that others will miss out on.
Again with the insinuation that those who don't like Far Cry/Crysis, for whatever reason that may be, are lacking in raw gray matter and, furthermore, maturity.

Are you suggesting that those who don't "appreciate" Crysis are helpless, inept dolts?

COD4 does not bring anything new to t he table, it has good visuals but same gameplay as previous, vastly improved, that is what people wanted all along. It may not bring distructable enviroments nor anything spectacular, but it provides everything one may want out of an MP FPS. I for one, did not think Crysis looked as good as it did in every damned E3 video I saw awhile back, it looked great, but not as good. Demo was pretty fun, I really enjoyed it, but performance hitch killed it for me. I see folks, including buddied, that find 30FPS playable, I don't, it drives me nuts. Granted, the game looks to be great, but it is overhyped, it is not something out of this world, they are bringing a ton of new features, but it is way different from whta we have heard. For one, Demo didn't even use all 4 CPU cores like they saidit would, and judging by reviews, neither does the full version of the game. The screenshots they showed few months back looked awesome, does the game look like that? Hell no, with AA on it looks somewhat close, but it's a slideshow. Judging from the fact that they failed to make a game that takes advantage of a Quad Core processor, like they said they would, I am forced to conclude that they have done half-assed job in optimization. I really do not think it's the fact that our cards can't handle the game, I really doubght so.

Far cry was NOT open ended, there was little freedom of choice in the game, you felt like you had that freedom but you really didn't, it's the same with Crysis, if you try and stray too far off the set path you don't get very far, shot by choppers/speedboats or run into rocks/hills you can't get past. Just wanted to point that out.

The demo hack that they had for Crysis, I actually tried landing a chopper in a very nice terrain in order to try and hide there, well, I got a message saying that I was out of bounds, pissed me off :(. Far Cry felt alot more open ended, I can't judge though, I have only played the Crysis demo.

exactly, is that guy on crack?? if there was a scale of fanboism, Crysis would break it.

Bioshock's actually too easy as a shooter, but had a fun plot. Still, everything you do is scripted and completely linear.

The story of Bioshock, both on an ingame and on a meta-game level, made this painstalkingly obvious, the constant reminder that you were doing someone elses bidding, both ingame and as a gamer at the same time was one of the great charms of Bioshock... "Would you kindly...?"

Now on Crysis, though I have only played the demo so far, the european release is on November 16, I must say that I am very impressed with openendedness of the game so far, sure you can't really go everywhere because terrain limits you, but I can't scale a sheer cliff IRL anyway... Sure the out of bounds / cruisemissile to face limit to your movements bother me too but it seems fair enough that I cannot swim all the way to Sumatra if I fancy so... Gameplaywise I like the various approaches there is to dispatch your enemies, if you so chose... Death by bullet / Death by Turtle / Death by drowning / Death by Explosion / Death by collapsing building / Death by being thrown off a high cliff... you name it!

About the graphics, sure it's not the concept videos shown off in the stages of early development, but I'm pretty amazed none the less. I have chosen to run the game at 1280x960 with a healthy mix of "high" and "very high" settings and once I got a bit of playtime with brightness, contrast and gamma settings I feel that I'm getting quite fabulous visuals.

You are clearly insane. Games like COD4 are scripted boring old corridor shooters, Crysis is immersive, and wide open. You can play the same area several times and have a different experience each time. Who plays on anything but Delta anyways?
