I have had crysis for a decent amount of time and have had no problems until now. It was running fine two days ago and yesterday it just started coming up with this error message when i try to restart it. "Crysis has stopped working" It doesnt even get to the EA video before the menus in the game. Its been patched to the latest version, and ive tried reinstalling it. whats causing this and gow do i fix it ?

I have same problem when I try to start it using shortcut - it is working without problem when I use autorun (from DVD).

It doesnt run period. Even if i go from the autorun. It wont run if i try to run it directly from the application in the program files.

Yeah, everything else runs fine. No problems with windows or any other programs or games.

Thats just it, it ran fine just up until two days ago, when this just randomly started.

I've had this happen with many games when they try to connect to the internet and the Firewall is waiting for you to deny or allow the connection.
It leaves the PC in a really sorry state as often when alt tabbing back to windows it wont display the windows screen until the connection is either fully terminated or allowed.
So you dont get to click on allow or deny and dont even know that is the problem.
The process cant be killed either until the connection is resolved.

When you do manage to quit the game, the request to allow or deny the connection disappears so quick you often dont get to see it.

To fix it, go into your Firewall and either allow or deny Crysis from connecting to the internet.
If the rule is already there, delete and recreate it.
It should work immediately if that is the problem.

I couldnt find an option in nod32 to do that, so i just temporarily disabled the firewall, and it worked, but for some reason, it ran in full screen mode(i have it set to windowed) so when it got into the menus, i changed it back to windowed mode and low and behold, it crashed. So is it a driver problem or....

Have you tried again after rebooting with firewall still disabled?
If not, reinstall it, you dont lose your savegames.

Back them up if you wish before starting, they are located in
C:\Documents and Settings\%USER%\My Documents\My Games\Crysis

all my saves are backed up, and i already beat the game (twice). When i get the "Crysis has stopped working" error, in the details, it says the cause is the ati 32 bit display driver so i guess ill try reinstalling that.

Im not gonna re format for just one game. If this problem isnt solvable any other way, then oh well.

Have you tried different display drivers?

Crysis is a game that pushes your PC really hard and as such is more likely to be affected by overclocks, heat and bad power.
What temp does the GPU hit under load and what is its idle temp?
Can you let us know what PSU you have.
Can you try the game without any overclock?

The PSU is the one in my sig, a Silverstone Decathalon 750 watt with 60 amps on the 12volt rail.

My GPU is overclocked, and it idles around 57c, loads at about 67c.

I will try it at stock.

I meant put everything at stock, if its stable then, you can work from there.

do you get any errors in your event log that can give a clue?

Have you installed any other games that may have updated DirectX?
Its possible a key dll is corrupted or has an unusable version (although for the last one I would expect a different error).
Click Start/Run and type
dxdiag

This should check your current DirectX files and download any updates.
It will then let you check if there are any problems with DirectX and performs a quick test on loading to see if there are any immediate problems.
The result is in the box at the bottom of the window.

Under the DirectX Files tab, all files should be labeled as Final Retail.
Look through the other tabs and mess about with the tools to see if anything strange shows up.

I havent installed anything after crysis, and as i stated earlier(though kind of vaguely), it says the ati display driver is causing the problem.

Nothing seems wrong in the dxdiag. Thats the first thing i checked because i thought something might not be enabled.

I don't think his gpu temps would affect a game that can't even boot up into the menu...?

Have you tried moving all of the intro movies to another folder so as to skip them? Not sure if it would work but it's worth trying.

Nope, that didnt work either. I think its something to do with the drivers(video) not liking the windowed mode even though it ran fine for a good deal of time. The only problem is that i cant really get into the game to change it to fill screen and i cant find the config file to change it through the files. It doesnt go to full screen the first time i run it ( after a fresh reinstall) either so i have no way of changing it back.

Happened to me a while ago. I could actually run windowed mode just fine, it was just full screen (64-bit) would freeze. The 32-bit version always ran fine. A random video driver update fixed it. Try a different driver.

Well, i got it too work. I found a way to put it in full screen, and that solved all the problems. I guess it just doesnt like windowed mode

How did you do that? I mean how did you put it in full screen mode without starting it and doing it from the options menu? I have a similar problem.....

press alt enter right as the window pops up. alt enter is the shortcut for maximize.
