Crysis from CES 2007

wow. This game is going to be almost creepy how realistic the graphics are.

That video is ridiculous. I hope this game isn't going to be like F.E.A.R. where it can't be run fully until two years after it was released. It looks incredible though.

When was this ever a bad thing? And it only took 1 year since FEAR hasnt been out for two.

It's been out for 16 months, you're right. I rounded up. And in my opinion, the reason it's bad is that it makes the game impossible to play on the highest settings unless you have a $3000 computer. Thus, you have two options: One, you turn down the settings to get a playable framerate, but then what's the point of playing the newest top of the line game when all the new eye candy is turned off and it looks like a game from last year? Or two, you wait to play the game on the next gen hardware in which case the game may as well have been released a year later. I realize that development studios are always looking to push the envelope further and further, but I don't understand the obsession with creating games that include tons of options that no one but those with an unlimited budget can utilize. I mean, the screenshots are all well and good and like I said, it's impressive, but if I can't play it and see the same things, what's the point?

Yes and thats were the whole marketing "your PC sucks, upgrade to play this shit" comes in. Welcome to the real world :D

Oblivion caused MANY to upgrade their video cards just to play decently. Crysis will do the same.

I fear that a G80 won't be able to run this game as it's intended at native resolutions for 24+" monitors.

Be not afraid, the dev team built it so that it will run fine on DX9 cards, it will not be a problem for DX10 cards, even with 24+ monitors. From an interview with GameSpy:

"GS: Finally, is there anything else you'd like to add about the technology that's going into Crysis to prepare it for use with both DirectX 9 and Direct3D 10, as well as for Windows Vista?

CY: Yes. Our high-end DX9 and XP experience was meant to offer you all our goals in terms of a cinematic and realistic experience, with gameplay mechanics pushing choices and freedom to the maximum. I want to reemphasize this is still true. D3D10 is going to take that whole experience and help us exceed those initial goals. "

I have to admit, as pretty and awesome as it looks, whats up with the 'super jump' and 'super speed' stuff? To me it almost ruins the realism part - I could be mistaken if a valid reason was given, however.

Its part of the story. Nano suit that can be changed.

The story seems to be in the future. You have a "nano-suit" which you can dial in to have speed, strenght or armor increased.
That clip was very cool. FarCry on steroids.

I thought youre supposed to investigate an alien crash landed ships or something, why are you running around shooting chinese guys?

They are the DPRK troops, Mr Il's right hand. I guess they were closer to the crash sight than US forces.
