Crysis 1 & 2 Screen Shots

Can you point out a game that received this sort of criticism ?
Define "this sort".

It matters on the PC side if it [affects] sales
Key word being "if". The criticism becomes irrelevant if the sales are substantial enough to justify the effort. We deal with customers here who bitch and moan about our products and our pricing constantly, but if the income outweighs the effort to deal with those complaints, it's in our best interests to continue those efforts. It's not that complicated.

...just look at how many people said they won't buy the game because of Kyle's comments.
How many people have said "I will not buy the game because of Kyle's comments" or something to that effect?

Kyle's comments will in no way, shape or form help PC gamers and are actually a disservice to us.
That's a fair opinion.

The only people who complained about crysis performance were the butthurt enthusiasts who had their rig torn to shreds by the advanced features of the engine, that was not legitimate complaint, Crysis scaled amazingly well across different hardware, to this day no one has offered up any decent findings to back claims of it being unoptimized.

Nor was this the reason that Crytek dumbed down the 2nd one, they dumbed it down for console use, these are 2 unrelated things.

Someone is always going to whine, but there is a difference between a legitimate complaint and someone just moaning for the sake of it.

Sandbox will be release later, it was in the Beta (as was 64bit.exe and DX11 'beta' files).

There's already a guy who made a Crysis 2 beta mod , Elevator Dance or something, funny stuff..

It matters on the PC side if it effects sales which is why Kyle trashed the game, just look at how many people said they won't buy the game because of Kyle's comments. And my guess is most of those people won't buy it for consoles either even if it is geared towards that platform.

My point is simple, don't expect people to take risks in making PC exclusive content when people like Kyle go out of their way to slam and discredit things not to their liking. One slip up and now on top of all the other issues that developing on the PC poses you now have influential people in the PC gaming community sabotaging you.

Kyle's comments will in no way, shape or form help PC gamers and are actually a disservice to us. Telling the guy running the show to go choke on his "floppy penis of a game" helped no one except Kyle.

So what you are saying then is that people should just be quiet when an obvious sellout occurs in such a massive manner like this, to help line the pockets of the developers that sold out? I understand what you are saying, but the other side of the coin would be to speak with our wallets and not spend money on something that is not what it was said to be. I'm not on Kyle's cock at all, but I respect his opinions and take them as that, opinions. I bought the game and want my freaking money back from the lying bitch's...

Define "this sort".

Hmmm? You lost me...I defined it quite well in the next lines...

You might want to check the "Official Crysis 2 thread" to do that count...

Maybe I'm just not understanding the significance. What difference does it make if the criticism is with respect to one thing or another? Criticism is criticism, is it not?

I just don't understand the point. Every game is criticized for something: what actually matters to developers and publishers are the sales figures.

It's his argument and thus his job to tally them up. I'm not doing it.

Bro, those screens are cherrypicked
Yes, I have hundreds of screenshot saved from my many times playing through the original and they look unquestionably better than anything he posted. Also he says he's using 4xAA, but it's clearly not working. Crysis 2 has typical xbox360 graphics, nothing special about those shots.

You really aren't. Criticizing something with a valid point is one thing. Criticizing it because it doesn't run @ 60 fps on mid-range PCs is not. Not to mention not buying the game, because it's "DX9 only". When a game is about the graphics API used, that might be a valid point. That isn't the case though.

My point wasn't for you to count them literally. Just a way to say that they are many.

Who defines what type of criticism is "valid" and "invalid"? You? Someone else?

Being analytically critical is one thing. Telling the someone to choke on a penis is entirely another. Plus this is VERY much a subjective matter. Personally I think Crysis 2 SP looks awesome and plays well, I'm happy with the purchase so in this case Kyle doesn't represent my opinions at all. So he's free to say what he want's but how he said it isn't going to deliver one damn bit of PC content from any developer.

Then post them, that's the purpose of the thread afterall. As for the AA setting I just set it in game running the latest WHQL drivers for the 480.

Crysis 1 looks to be using far better textures and more complex shaders.

In some places yes and in some places no. Crysis 1 textures out of the box at least are not consistent and that seems to be the case in Crysis 2 as well.

Meh, I don't see it as the consumers job to please the company, but rather, the other way around. If it doesn't sell well, they fucked up.

When did the definition of "please" become not saying something as personally offensive as this?

I hope Cevat Yerli chokes on this giant flaccid floppy penis of a game, while he is pulling out his overstuffed-wallet. Yeah, I just said that, and I meant

If you want a company to produce a product for you personal insults are not the way to get them to listen to you.
I don't disagree. Whether Kyle actually wants for Crytek to listen to his complaints and address them is up to debate.

I doubt we will ever see anything like this with Cryengine 3. Can you understand why Crysis fans feel disappointment with Crysis 2?

It's tragic that playable game graphics have not advanced past the year 2007. Cryengine 3 at this moment simply does not look as good as Cryengine 2. Seriously, who could possibly think otherwise after viewing the incrysis screenshot roundup pages?

Maybe by actually playing the game. Turning this into some type of fact is like trying to state that the color red sucks.

Sure I'd like to see a better looking game, hell I spend more than most each and every year buying PC games and hardware. But damn, the game just came out YESTERDAY! We have no idea about the engine's real capability, DX 11 or what other games might use this engine and push it further. To beat Crytek to a bloody pulp over this right now to me TOTALLY justifies focusing on consoles.

No I don't like that but if all PC gamers are going to do is bitch and pirate the game what's the point in focusing on us when there's potentially an easier and more lucrative crowd to please?

For me Crysis 2 is just wonderful on my 3D Surround setup. Looks better and plays better than any other game I've played on it in the nine months I've had it. This is as real and honest as anything anyone else has said about the SP game but I guess if I don't say it just sucks ass then some people think it's a lie or I'm a paid shrill. But fuck, I've not played anything that looks or plays better in 3D Surround, and I own every 3D Vision Ready title except Civ 5 and MoH . Plus I have a ton of others that are supposedly good in 3D.

Seriously who cares, I just want to stop playing in the jungle for once. Getting sick and tired of seeing that beach as well.(and bush wookies) If the multiplayer maps for Crysis 2 are not on the beach then that's a GIGANTIC step forward as far as I'm concerned. No more trees please, thanks

He wants to stop playing in that jungle that has been the setting of two and half Crytek games and start running through some extremely innovative linear corridors... wait what?

I can respectly disagree with you; it isn't like stating the color red sucks in this case. At this very moment; using a perfectly functioning eyeball and brain -- in no way does Crysis 2 look as good as the incrysis screenshots. Download the 26mb picture: http://www6.incrysis.com/screenshots/ScreenShot0097-res-10000.jpg Just because Crysis 2 looks great in 3D, doesn't mean it manages to trump the almost 4 year old predecessor.

This is just addressing what the engines are outputting -- I'm not concerned about what you think of the experience - just the engines.

I don't see why not. Is there any evidence that the engine has been gutted? To me it looks like all the assets were designed with consoles in mind. I would be actually be really interested to find out what happens if you bring the assets that made those screenshots forward to Crysis 2. Some things probably wouldn't look quite as good (at least until the DX11 patch), but I bet it would actually pull better performance.

We really don't know what Cryengine 3 is truly capable of at this point. Is Crysis 2 a big visual leap on the PC, in my opinion no, does it look worse than Crysis 1 out of the the box? Once in my opinion to me it rivals and surpasses it in a lot of ways out of the box. And Crysis 2 just work brilliantly for my preferred method of gaming, 3D Surround, it's MUCH better than Crysis 1 at that.

I know man, it's why I used the word "moment". I realize I'm comparing a modified 4 year old engine to one that's been out officially a day -- maybe after an update or cvar unlock, etc, it very well could look better in the future; however, at this time it's just not there.

The only reason I commented in the first place was because this thread is comparing Crysis 1 to Crysis 2 screenshots.

Exactly. We have no idea what Cryengine 3 can actually do at this point and now if anyone was actually working on PC content well gee, I just bet they are just fucking thrilled to be working on any PC content for this game now.

It's one thing to speak one's mind, it's entirely another thing altogether to bash something to bits when the full story isn't even in. After what was posted on [H] I HIGHLY doubt Crytek has much to say to anyone on the [H] staff. Would you?

All I see out of this is a spiraling mess. PC games get pirated to hell and back, they don't sell as well as the developer would like them and then the PC gaming community just lobs f-bombs like napalm. I'm not laying this all on the PC gaming community but it's just becoming a damn angry bitch fest and that certainly isn't productive. We have powerful hardware and we want and need talented people to take risks to provide us with top level technology. I simply don't see how under current circumstances that the PC gaming community is fostering ANY desire to take a risk on this platform considering just how demanding the technology AND the people are.

Look at just how nostalgic some people are over Crysis 1, how is set the bar for technical excellence and it sold 3 million copies? For a game that is arguably the most technically brilliant game ever to sell only 3 million copies in my mind kind of sucks. Hell I bought 10 copies myself.

PC gamers pointing fingers at the developers, developers pointing fingers at PC piracy, what a clusterfuck.

Cryengine 3 was designed with consoles in mind and there were no mod tools included with Crysis 2 as was with Crysis 1. Furthermore, many of the files the game outputs are encrypted instead of easily editable as they were in Crysis 1 as well. We'll see what can be done with it in a year or two.

Isn't this all a moot discussion until they show us DX11?

Exactly and bashing the game the DAY after it was released to hell and back I don't think is going to accelerate that process. A nice and simple "I'll buy the game on the PC when DX 11 comes out for it." would have done nicely without pissing off the people we need to actually, you know, DELIVER DX11.

Phide, your not in Genmay, arguing here is like arguing with a brickwall.

People who complained about the original Crysis BEING HARDWARE INTENSIVE(edit) are bitches and should not even be acknowledged.

Crysis did what most AAA PC titles should do. Push current day PC hardware to the limit, AND looking good on lower hardware. Why upgrade if games are not pushing the hardware. Crysis did such a good job it even causes people to upgrade their current hardware.Crysis was well optimized and looked better the more powerful computer a person had.

Crysis 2 fails because it does not look as good as Crysis, and does not look as good while having smaller environments to generate. it does not push hardware. Maybe when DX11 comes out it will look better and have more options to increase graphics. BUT it is very obvious PC gaming took a backseat to consoles, but not even a backseat PC gamers got club in the back of the head and shoved into a trunk all the while Crytek was yelling, look we are catering to you!

Well, people who didn't like the gameplay, sory, etc have valid opinions, but the "unoptimized" argument is pretty bad. I got a pair of 8800GT's to play it when it was new, and it ran pretty well for how it looked. It scaled down gracefully too, if you were unwilling or unable to purchase an enthusiast GPU config.

The question now is, how well does CryEngine 3 scale past the current artificial settings cap? There are asset issues, especially some textures with the new game, but that isn't an engine limit.

I think Crytek is really trying to sell their new engine here, rather than the game itself. It obviously scales down well enough most devs will have no problem with asset creation, much like UE3.

I doubt we'll ever see anything like those, period, in actual gameplay situations for who knows how long? Imagine playing a full fledged game that looked like that! THAT is where the PC needs to be going. You can't even pretend a console could light a candle to any of that.

Like I said to you in the other thread: I fell out of my chair when the force of gravity pulled me down by my dropped jaw having hit the floor.

Those pictures really are worth a thousand words...and then some!
