If you guys haven’t seen the two CryEngine2 tech demo videos over at Kotaku yet, you really should. The hillside mansion demo is extremely impressive.

Two clips, one showing off a leafy hillside mansion, the other a city street and some trams. Just in case you needed further a reason to start looking a little harder at DirectX 10.

It sure will be nice if we ever get an actual game with the CryEngine 2 powering it. Crysis will be fantastic and there are rumors that a Far Cry 2 are in the works. Hopefully we'll get Crysis before long but I'd bet on it being this Fall/Winter before it happens now. :(

GameTrailers is wrong though...

Both of those videos are not of the game Crysis but of IMAGTP's IMAGIN3D architecture and urban planning tool (Interactive Virtual Model), which uses CryENGINE 2. The new video, the Tramway one, is a unfinished WIP demo video which should not have gone public. The finished version of it should be out soon.

Also... all the IMAGIN3D media should be in DirectX9.

Three: "sweet".

Then again, why do I need DX10?

I know Steve, you posted this quote: "Just in case you needed further a reason to start looking a little harder at DirectX 10." I have to ask, who made that statement?

If it looks that good using DX9, why the hell should I punish myself with Vista, and all it's problems, for DX10, which doesn't have any games that use it yet?

I just don't get it??????

Yeah, some people have gobs of cash to blow, and buy the "latest and greatest" hardware, just so they can brag to their friends that they have it, but if there is no useful purpose for it, as in the top-of-the-line 8800GTX-water-cooled-uber-overclocked-DX10 vidcard, what the hell is the point?

I considered upgrading to a DX10 system this spring, with my income tax rebate, but instead I've decided to upgrade my current gaming system, then use the "old" parts to upgrade the other three systems in my house, a few new parts included.

My new system would run me $1800 Canadian, that's using my current tower/monitor/KB/mouse/speakers. For $1200 Canadian, I can score myself a nice Opty, a couple 939 mobos, a couple 3700+'s, some RAM, a new HDD, and make everyone in the house happy.

I just don't see how this vid, looking as good as it does under DX9, would make anyone want to jump ship to DX10, the new system, and Vista(which I figure is another "WindozeME")?

Sorry if I pulled the thread off topic, but shit man, I really can't understand, considering the costs involved, why anyone would want to go DX10 after seeing that vid? It's beyond me.

Maybe it's a "Canadian thing", I dunno, but after watching it, it tells me I should stick with a DX9 based system until Vista is fixed, or goes the way of ME.

Maybe, after Vista dies a horrible death, like ME, M$ will finally launch Longhorn.

Bwahahahahaha, just kidding. :D

Screw carmack and id, Crytek is where the real geniuses are at, its too bad they never get the credit they deserve.

one word that sums it up, Wow. If only there was a game that coule harness all of that eye candy. Imagine a MMO with like seigewarfare capabilities and the character models. Just imagine a WW2 simulation like call of duty, you would have to turn your eyes from the screen it would be so real looking.
