I have 1 gig dual-channel PC 4000 Ballistix Ram. When I boot up, it displays it running at ddr400? shouldn't it be running at 500mhz? The timings are Cas-3 Tras-4 Trcd 4 Trp 2 and 2t timing. I have a AMD300+ on a Chantec vnf4-ultra mobo running at 2.1. Is there any way to tighten up these speeds? Under memory frq in the CMOS, I can only find the operating speeds at 166, and 200mhz. Is there anything else I can do to tighten these up, or am I somehow limited by the motherboard. Thanks for any advice

Hey, do I hear (cf)Eclipse coming?

And, to answer your question, no, it won't just boot at DDR500, it will boot at stock DDR400.

heh, one thing about ram. stock speeds of a motherboard is normally 200mhz these days, which means ddr400, pc3200. to get to ddr500, you need to overclock. ;)

also, the ballistix should be able to do 2-2-2 timings at 200mhz without a problem. i think pc4000 might be binned as higher speed/higher timing chips, so you may have to keep it at 2.5-2-2, but that's unlikely. just change the timings in the bios

Unless your mobo is the K8VSEDX...then do nothing and watch that expensive ram be stuck on autosense (like me) 3-3-3-8 and not boot if you set it to ANYTHING else.

Now I wonder...new mobo or Raptor...new mobo will let my push my Konston HyperX a little more (I think), but the raptor....hmmm decisiosn, too bad I can only choose one.
