Has anybody else had a CRT monitor not turn on? On one of mine, the LED just blinks until I push the power button all the way in. Then the LED goes solid for about 2 seconds and starts blinking again. I tried rebooting my system and disconnecting and reconnecting the power. Everything is hooked up right. I had this problem before with the monitor, but it fixed itself before I could look at it. I'm thinking about just smacking it really hard.

It's a Samsung SyncMaster 955 DF if it helps anyone.

I had this issue with my 30-Inch Sony XS HDTV. Most of the time if you pull the power plug out and leave it out for a few hours it'll fix it. Just one of those random things that happen with CRT's from time to time :( If that does not work, you might have a dead display, but chances are it just needs to have the power plug pulled for a few hours.

Check the connection to your video card. Some of my CRT's will not power up if they're not connected properly, or if there is a problem with the video card.

I checked the connection with the video card and checked to be sure that it was seated in the AGP slot correctly. That appears to be fine, so I guess I'll wait a day or so with it unplugged. Its not under warranty anymore, so maybe I can upgrade to an LCD:)

My old LG did the same thing except I was in the middle of playing a game when all the sudden it shut off. I could get it back on and the power light just flashed.

You said it's out of warranty. I did a quick search and found a review from 2001, so it ain't no spring chicken and ain't worth nursing IMO.

CRTs are pretty much disposable* these days. You got a few years out of it, so probably time to move on. You can replace it pretty cheap or use this as your excuse to get an LCD. ;)

*Note: Be sure to dispose of it properly. Some stores offer recycling programs. In our neighborhood just about anything you put out on the curb will be gone in no time. When basketball season started a few months ago, our old (like 15 years old) 20" tv was having issues where it took forever for the tube to warm up and it didn't display 100% of the vertical so the strip up top with the score was being cut off. How the hell can you watch a game when you can't read the score???

We went to Circuit City and bought a new 27" and put the old one on the curb with the remote taped on top and a note saying it still worked... it was gone in like 20 minutes. Of course, the irony is that the very next game we watched, they changed the way the score is displayed so it would have shown on the old tv.

Meanwhile, we're loving the new tv, it's nice to be able to watch letterbox DVDs without squinting. Sometimes it takes something like this to get you to upgrade, then you wonder why you waited so long. :D

Oh I've got an LCD on one of my other rigs. I was just hoping that I could wait to get a new monitor when I upgraded the internals too. Now it's just finding the money to get that rig up again. I may be able to get a cheap monitor for free and hook it up to my third rig and move that larger nice monitor over to my faster rig. I've still got one more test left that I'm gonna try before I give it up and strip it for parts though.
