Was thinking about maybe getting a new monitor, which brings me to the question "CRT or LCD". My main worry about getting an LCD is getting dead pixels and I remember going round my mates, looking at his from an angle and the LCD went dark/dim.
These issues do not affect CRT monitors and space isnt really an issue for me, though I have not been keeping up to date on the latest LCD advances, if they have gotten a lot better in recent times etc.
Should I get one of those really good CRT's or an LCD? My price range is up to £300 ($440).M

looks like a better buy, better than the Dell 2405. Here, another thread was already started about this ( http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=952788 ), it does look good, and for only about $400 too!

The link given says it ships to US and Canda only, and he gave his budget in British pounds, meaning he probably doesn't live in either of those two countries.

For the money, you are bound to get a proportionately larger and higher resolution CRT compared to any LCD. The models offered in Europe can vary somewhat, and not just in prices. I had read quite a bit on Belinea LCDs but found one couldn't get them in the US for the most part, and models that are cheaper in the US may not be so there, so who can say. Viewsonic just released the VP930b, their successor to the VP191b, which was chosen by more than one site (behardware, tomshardware, etc) as being the best all-round LCD 19-incher, and it goes for ~$420 in the US. Belinea came out with a model based on the same technology, the 10 19 20, though no idea on the prices. You should check out BeHardware to see some of their reviews. As to comparing the sizes, despite not worried about space, you should see this physical comparison of a 17-inch LCD with a 19-inch CRT. One expects something like this, but it is impressive to see anyhow. Remember that the speed tests in that article are over a year old and that newer models are faster.

Both have draw backs and you have to decide for yourself which is better and if LCD's are worth the cost.

I felt that the reduced eye strain, perfect gemoetry and very clearly defined pixels without a chance of fuzziness, small size, low heat/power, and especially the reduced eye strain justified it. Its generally accepted that pixel response and ghosting is no longer an issue if you have 12ms and faster and 16ms is on the boarder where some people are ok and others are not. I couldn't be any happier with my 8ms and lack of ghosting, just as fast as any CRT I've used as far as my eyes are concerned and my other friends who have used it have been blown away.

The biggest sacrifice I think I've dealt with is color reproduction, the 6bit per channel is just not enough. With enough tweaking I got I have reached an acceptable configuration but it wasn't real easy.

Make sure you have and use DVI if you get an LCD.

Jump over to an electronics store, we have Best Buy for instancein the states and see how much you can tinker with resoultions and video/games that may be pre-isntalled there to see what you like best.
