Hi, I am here (again) to request a picture if anyone has one, of a picture of a 19in crt and a 20in widescreen lcd. Please do post it in here so I can see :) thanks

What would you get from that? If you are hoping to compare image quality, well, you can't. Even with experience and a multi-thousand dollar camera it would be really hard or impossible to accurately capture the differences between the displays. Further, the display you are viewing it on will change the results.

While you can take a picture of the screen to show general things, it's not real useful as an image quality comparison. For example one of the many problems you'd face is that of brightness differences. If I were to take a side by side shot of my CRT and LCD the brightness difference would render it useless. Either I'd have to open up the aperture for the CRT, in which case the LCD would be a bright, washed out splotch, or I'd have to clamp it down and the CRT would appear very dim. The only way to get both would be to take different shots at different F-stops and do an HDR merge in Photoshop. However that's a processed image and so not really telling you anything.

Unfortunately, the only way to really see what a monitor looks like is to actually see it, and to view it in lighting conditions similar to how you'll use it.

the LCD appears to be much more vivid.
I used to have 2 19" CRT's, which looked great (well one of them did, the other was way out of spec). I took the out of spec one in for warranty work and purchased a 19" wide LCD and put that next to my good CRT. The LCD made my good CRT look really dull, color and brightness-wise.
Best Buy didn't find anything wrong with my CRT, so I went in and told them that it looks terrible compared to the other CRT (both Samsung 997DF's) so they just gave me my money back and I used that to purchase another 19" wide LCD.

My 19" wide is the same height and a tad wider than the 19" CRT.

good request :) i'd like to see too but 21" CRT and 22" wide side by side to see how much is actual difference in height.

now just overlay a CRT with it's average viewable area on top of that chart.

so actually 22" wide lcd ( although it's not here) would be bit smaller in height than visible size of 21" crt ( 19.8" ) .. ? heh ; (

So the 19in wide LCD is the same height as a 19in crt? that's good to hear.. since I ordered a samsung 20in widescreen and my current is a 19in crt.

I was afraid I am going to lose height since all I hear is widescreen are basically short than thier 4:3 counterpart... but I forgot crt's has 1 inch less viewable than thier rated size.

So it looks like I am gaining height.. sweet. I also found a tv calculator thing also, which is nice, but they dont put in crt or lcd though hehe.

thanks guys.

My 19" CRT and 20" LCD widescreen have a viewable area that's about 1/8" different (the LCD being slightly shorter). Some others may be the reverse of that, while others will be identical. Either way you're not going to notice a difference in that dimension, though due to the resolution (1050 vs 1024) you fit a tad more vertically with the LCD.
