Ok, I am all happy with my new Viewsonic E90F.
Amazing space with 1782x1344.
But what is the best way to calibrate it?
Colour and picture shape wise.
 
There's usually free software around that will display test screens for you to calibrate the monitor with. Some monitor companies even have their own software, such as NEC-Mitsubishi. Before I got the 2141sb, which has its own software, I was using Nokia's Ntest2. Search for "nokia ntest2" and you'll find some download links. It includes some directions. Aside from focus adjustments, usually found inside the monitor, I think horizontal and vertical convergence make the biggest differences in picture quality (if they are not set right). The program also helps with brightness and contrast, geometry, and color.

Monitor adjustment first = geometry focus, resolution, refreshrates.

Monitor calibration = Black and white point, and color temperature calibration.
 
a lot of professional monitor calibration software costs money. If your into digital photography and digital art I guess it's worth the cost to get the right colours.
