And pretty much near extinction....as most switches now are auto direction sensing.

still useful for plugging 2 boxes straight into each other though, like if you are trying to diagnose a bad switch or bad NIC.

Unless you have a GigE NIC on at least one of the machines. Auto MDI/MDX so no X-over needed. Some 100BaseT NICs as well.

Most 100Mbit cards I've tried lately, which is a trend I like.
