I finally got around to my latest build. It is smaller than the earlier versions but much more performance oriented.

The case is perforated alum and has a CarbonFiber mobo tray and fan box.

I made custom GPU blocks for the 8600GTs and it uses a pair of laptop Sata Hdds running Raid0
 
Wireless.. SWEET! actually there are a LOT of wires, I am just REALLY good at hiding them.

the NB fan is a Silenx I mod. here is a shot of a 120MM one I used in Crossflow II

The building of the case is the easy part, the wiring is a little tougher, lol
 
I am using a
Asus P5N-E SLI with a C2D 6550
2 gigs of OCZ reaper memory
2 XFX 8600GTs in SLI (with custom water blocks)
2 Hitachi Sata laptop Hdds in Raid0
I have 2 PSs, 1 is a PC Power&Cooling 510 and the other is a Silverstone 400 ( I switch between the 2)
the water cooling is Hand made blocks for the GPUs and a next gen CPU block from Dangerden.
Also there is a modded Laing DDC pump.
The rad is a Russel race Car oil cooler (much higher water and air flow) cooled with 3 Silverstone high speed 90mm fans in 80mm housings.
The chipset cooler is a Thermalright 05 with a modded Silenx 90mm fan.
Also a iMON ultra to add remote control to all the comps functions.

The case is Perforated alum, the mobo tray and air box are CarbonFiber

Than I scrapped it and went with a Silverstone 400 PS (Power&Cooling got mad I took the PS out of its case, lol)

Notice the 24 pin plug , that goes to the mobo. The PS has a short pigtail that plugs into it, much cleaner than the PC 510.

I didnt have any time to get more picts cause I get pretty focused on the building part. Its all in pieces now and I am making the next version.

I have 2 8800GTSs, but there is no difference I can see on my 20" screen. If you had a 24 or 30" mabye they are needed but the 8600GTS play all my games at max and make tons less heat, use a LOT less power and waste a lot less space.

This is something I've been kicking around for years (especially with those Tech Stations you can buy), but never thought it could look like this. Simply awesome.


I have a couple of questions for ya, if you don't mind:

1. How much noise does this setup have in comparison to a watercooled PC case?

2. It's hard to tell from the Picts, but what are the dimentions of the case?

3. Why the oil cooler instead of a Triple Radiator, was it for its small size?

4. Is that the same perforated alum that you can get at Lowe's (called Gutter Guard)?

Can't wait to see the work on your Next Version.
 
Big thanks Powerhouse2k. The idea behind this case is to keep getting smaller.
The size of this case is 12.5 deep 11" wide and 8" tall.

the reason for the oil cooler is higher flow and the fins are designed to be less restrictive as well. I basically built the case around the oil cooler. A triple rad would be HUGE for me and offer no real advantage. I also needed the intake/outlet fittings to be where they are.

Notice I used a pair of 8600GTs, you could blow on them and cool them off. The 8800GTS cards have a TON more heat to get rid of, its gotta go somewhere..

So my choice of rad is really good for the hardware I am using. Notice no 90deg bends and nothing reducing airflow so even with slow (quiet fans) the cooling is very good. So the noise level is very low. Im sure the CarbonFiber also helps to keep the resonances down (vibrations tend to magnify noises).

The alum I buy from metalsupermarkets.com (awsome service) Its .040 thick with 1/16 holes on 1/8 centers. It seems to give just the right amount of strength. Another secret is I bend the edjes and that gives more strength than just flat metal.

Great work on the case. Did you lay the carbon fiber yourself or did you buy sheets of if somewhere? I am trying to find a good supplier for my upcoming mod.

Thats where I get it, their shipping is awesome.(they are in Calif and I am in Nevada and it shows up next day) I buy a yard of it and the 2 Part epoxy. (about $100)

Very sweet rig :cool: Did you cut the chassis on those fans down? I looked on Silenx's site but didn't see any like that, they were all the standard square-shaped chassis.
 
yep, I grind the lugs off and smooth the housings. Regular fans have a big chamfer and a odd shape to their housings but Silenx have a round housing that lets you do that (There are a couple of Silverstones too but the Silenx has a better designed blade).
Another cool thing is Silenx fans are made from polycarbonate.
