Crossfired cards with different PCI-E speeds

I currently have a pair of crossfired 4890 Vapor-X in slots 1 and 3, on my Rampage II Extreme.

The PCI-E 2.0 in slot 1 is x16, while slot 3 is x8.

Out of curiosity, does this different in PCI-E speeds affect the stability of the crossfire? That is, one card is operating faster than the other?

Alternatively, would both cards run at x8 given the heterogeneous PCI-E setup, as to sync with one another?
 
Since most of the data is passed through the CF bridge, the difference would probably only be seen in benchmarks not actual gaming.
 
You may see a difference at higher resolutions/multiple monitors but likely it will be nothing to worry about.
 
No, running x16/x8 will have no effect on the stability of your system.

If you're running super high end GPUs at fat resolution, you might see a 4% reduction in performance over x16/x16. Of course, the bottleneck might become more pronounced when Nvidia releases Fermi and/or ATI strikes back with whatever hawtness they're currently cookin' up ...
