Anyone know what happens if you unplug the crossfire dongle while the computer is running (games or desktop). Will it mess up the display once pluged back in, making you restart or will it be like unpluging your screen now and pluging it back in makes no difference?
 
Why? Are you planning on running around the back of your case unplugging cables randomly :p
 
Hmm.. why would you ever want to do that? Im not sure what would happen.. I dont want to risk 2 expensive videocards and a very expensive mobo to see..

It came up in one of the "crossfire dongle" threads and I just wondering if anyone knew. I don't see how it would get unpluged, but IF some how you managed to knock the dongle unpluged could you just plug it back in and continue working/playing like nothing happen?
 
I definitely think the image would screw up, but I'm not sure if the picture would freeze. And yeah I definitely would not spend the money on misfire to try that out.

Why not simply screw in the set bolts, just like you do with your monitor cable? Correct me if I'm wrong but you would have to rip the card out of the case if the cables are installed correctly.
 
I guess its a dumb question becuase its nearly impossible to unplug the cable without damaging your comp, but I am still wondering if it messes up crossfire or not. Maybe you need to move your comp and don't want to killing your game. hows that? I guess nobody knows the answer.
 
You wont damage anything, the most that is going through those cables is most likely some differential signaling, no voltage that woudl cause harm.

However, having the screen sync back up when reconnected is another issue altogether.

Yes but in xfire the cards use techniques to coordinate with each other to produce an image. With a monitor it's more or less signal or no signal.
