Crossfire troubles

I have crossfire set up on my computer, but the "Crossfire" option never shows up in the control center! Anyone know how to fix this?

Athlon X2 4800+
4 Gigs Kingston HyperX
x850xt Crossfire Edition
1800xt Crossfire ready
600 W power supply
DFI Lanparty UT X200 Crossfire
 
are you sure CrossFire is setup correctly? cards in the right slots? dongle connected correctly? CrossFire enabled in BIOS? all power cables connected to cards and mobo?

after checking all that re-install the latest Catalyst drivers with CCC, it should detect the cards then, reboot, and then see if CrossFire option is there to enable

And it's never going to work I'm afraid to say. The X850XT is not Crossfire compatible with the X1800XT. You need a X1800XT crossfire master to go with the X1800 you already have.

Alternatively you could replace the X1800XT with a normal X850XT and have crossfire that way.

You should really have read this before you bought your graphic cards.
 
You do realize that doing that gives you the effective performance of 2 X850 cards, since the faster card slows it self down to match the slower card.

This doesn't make much sense since 1 X1800XT is faster than 2 X850 cards, I don't see why you would go through the trouble of paying more for less performance.
 
Oh, I didn't read your specs, yeah, that setup won't work. You can't CrossFire cards with different GPU's. They need to be of the same series.

I believe for that to happen the cards have to be using the same series of cards (X series for example)

This actually doesn't happen, even if he had two different cards that were actually compatible with each other. If he had an X850XT and an X850PRO, for instance, he could run that under crossfire, but the X850XT wouldn't "downgrade" itself to X850PRO level.

That said... yeah... X850 doesn't work with X1800 under crossfire... they have to be of the same series. (IE., X850 with an X850, X800 with an X800, X1800 with an X1800, etc.)
 
If I were you, I would sell the X850 CF E and put down a little extra cash for another X1800.
 
Speaking of that, does anyone know where to find them? Or if ATI is planning on releasing a 512 version?
 
No X850 512mb version, only some lame X800XL 512mb "Gamer Edition". All X1800XT's should be 512mb unless they're a downgraded edition.
