Crossfire severely flawed?

What you were noticing in APB is regular stuttering caused by a driver issue. I'm sure that have microstutter in some games but haven't noticed it. Microstutter is much different than a regular stutter.

I need xfire as no single card will run 2650x1600 with the settings I like to use at 60fps min.

Almost +1. I could probably get away with a Titan now, but 2 680's is geat. Before the 680's, I had two unlocked 6950's. I can say that both Skyrim and BF3 play smoother on the Nvidia cards. I thought it was due to going from 6950's to 680's, but there may have been more to it. And, I was quite happy with the 6950's. They never really gave me any issue. I think, mostly, in BF3, I'd see a bit more stuttering in large movements with the mouse. The 50's would slow down then "catch" up. I seem to get less of that with the 680's. both types of cards were on a 30" at 2650x1600.

I'll take the microstutter, because I know AMD cards produce better colors and crisper text than nVidia cards! If you can't see it doesn't mean it isn't true, right?

Wait, are you serious? If you can't see it then it might be because both of the cards will produce the same digital stream to your monitor for many (if not all) 2D Windows scenarios. Piss off with your "better colors and crisper text" bs.

Microstutter is real and can be measured. When frame times alternate between 10ms and 30ms from frame to frame it looks a lot more like 33fps than the 50fps that would be reported. My friend's 5870 Crossfire experience and [H]'s reviews are the reason why I went with nVidia's SLI. Do you think Kyle and Brent (and TechReport and PCper) are lying to you?

You might be right about the SLI setup being smoother. It also might be that a single 680 is about as fast as 2x6950. You've about doubled your performance.

Yea funny.:)

sli/crossfire both has issues due to multi gpu once the fps goes down syncing is though.
best solution is a single card from either side.

To the guys talking about fps limiting and vsync forcing, do you really think thats good business to make someone have to go through that just to get what they paid for $500-1000?

I agree honestly, if a single GPU can get you 60fps and your running multi gpu to get higher fps e.g. 120hz why cap fps. Why not avoid multicard in the first place if that's the case. That's the reason I can't consider AMD for multi card this gen for me. If your $950 earns you 88fps in a game then I feel your entitled to all 88 frames.

Now in my unique sittuation I am running 3x 120hz displays so extra frames can be noticed with the eye especially after gaming at 120hz for over a year like I've been, and every single frame is very needed .

It didn't bother me with a 60hz display but ever since moving to a 120hz display it became a real issue for me.

It's ridiculous.

But I'm using Afterburner anyway, it took me about 20 seconds to set up the frame server and I can't get the performance I want with a single card.

If you're running at 120Hz and your games are getting 88fps, it's not because of the cap.

If you have your framerate capped at 120 and you're rendering 88fps, you'll be seeing all 88 regardless of which GPU you're using.

Yup, microstutter and all.

He was talking about capping at 60 to eliminate microstutter.

Anand has released it findings and a "discussion" it's had on the matter with AMD. My take is AMD danced around the issue a bit saying their focus on reducing frame latency is correct regardless of unbalance in frame delivery, but is relenting that they will be implimenting and option for "frame pacing" (smoothing) in a driver release in July.

Hopefully, we'll get a word or two on this from [H] soon...
