crossfire popularity soars

With the release of the X3200 and the X1900 series, I'm not surprised CF is on the rise.

LOL.... still shows how few people understand what will give the best IQ possible while maintaining killer speed.

my next rig will prolly be a cross fire rig. as to why there is such a large margin of difference is easy to figure out. Sli was hyped like crazy with the new nforce 4 chipset that people ahd been waiting for. it is way more likely that people would amke the jump to nforce 4 and pcie and sli at the same time. what i am try to convey is that if crossfire and sli where released at the same time there would be much luss of a difference.

as it stands, CrossFire isn't exactly the easiest thing to install, not a migrain like it was to get 3dfx's SLi to work in some cases but its still harder to do then SLi, which is fairly easy

either way my next rig might be a crossfire, or SLi depending on whos the leader in D3D10 or price/performance what ever, lots of factors decisions etc.

but its good to see crossfire catching on

crossfire increasing is good for everyone. its good for ATI users because it offers them another way to increase performance, and it is good for nvidia users because then nvidia will come out with something to try to beat crossfire. so of course its good for all computer users

hope that ATI can gain on this success by getting rid of the dongle and master cards (but i heard thats comming soon, no?)

Dongle free only for the slower (X1600 and below) cards. The 1800's and 1900's run faster than even the x16 bus can keep up with. The bus is fast enough to feed them, but not fast enough to feed them AND pass the info to the compositing chip. And even SLI cards need the SLI bridge, at least the faster ones.

Ok, so ATI could have went with an internal bridge, but something tells me that Nvidia has a patent on that.

Could be that the next high end ATI card could run over the bus with some different architecture and get rid of the dongle.

That said, the dongle is no big deal unless you're into pure aesthetics. Plug it in and forget it.

And for the OP...thanks for reminding me, I'll run '05 in a few minutes and post up another Crossfire score, that should bring us up to 5, at least. 150% increase baby!

and the point of this thread was...

For a tool to start a flame war from the looks of it.

Still amazes me that some people are retarded enough to assume that people posting dongmark scores make up 100% of people that have that kind of a setup. Quite obviously only 4 people on the planet have crossfire.

Ok, so ATI could have went with an internal bridge, but something tells me that Nvidia has a patent on that.

i somehow doubt NV will have a patent on an item that connects two devices internally

the dongle and mastercard came from the X800 line up having zero plans for being used tandemly, Nv had it planned pretty much from the start, ATi played catch up by implementing the mastercard, on paper the master card works just as good if not better then the sli set up, how ever its a production nightmare producing the same exact card only for something slightly different making it harder to get into the hands of the user

dongle doesn't bother me at all, no one looks at the end of my case, they just see the front, i only see the front, wires in the case run upwards and aren't at all tangling with each other so having the dongle doesn't do anything other then exist there, i just want them to get rid of the master card just to make it easier to purchase the set up when something comes out that i would want two of

from the looks of what seemed to be a fire starter of a thread, it sure did turn very on topic and fairly straight forward

Crossfire is somewhat doomed because SLI is tried and tested to work. Period.

And crossfire doesn't work? I take it you never seen the reivew on another site showing crossfire smacking around sli by large amounts in some games?

Heres some reading for you to do

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/video/display/geforce7900gtx.html

Nvidia wins some benchmarks but in quite a few crossfire is whoopin that ass by a large amount. Example :

far cry, pier level FSAA 14x\16x + 16x aniso 7900gtx sli 35fps crossfire 81.1 fps.

ati crossfire rigs have increased 100% in the last 2 months. now there are 4 crossfire rigs compared to 165 sli rigs.if this trend continues another 35 years or so, it will start to even out.

He's posting this to make fun of ATi users of course.

Although his 7900 cards produce fugly image quality, have less features available to them and are useless for Physics processing. I can't wait to see what will happen when Stalker is released..:p

Anyways.. ATi is doing away with the dongle and going for an internal connector on there next highend cards. They're also doing away with mastercards. Each card will have the AA Post-Processing parts on-Chip once 0.80u hits.

Blown Away?

I knew the fan was noisey but thats amazing.

Funny thing is crossfire is on the rise. Probably oblivion, Dell coupons, etc. I care that it works and the IQ is superior. I don't care if more peope want to buy a more tested, in many other ways, inferior setup.
