Crossfire not working. Help!

First I'll start with my system specs:
mobo: MSI 975X Platinum V2.1
Proc: E6300 OC'd to 2950MHz
Mem: 2GB OCZ DDR2 800MhZ
Video: X1900XT + X1900 CFE
HD: Seagate 250gb 7200.10
1x DVD Burner
Sound: SB Audigy 2 ZS
PSU: Mad Dog 550W (possibly my problem?)

So I have crossfire all hooked up and enabled in CCC but I just ran 3dmark 06 and got a score of 4500 =( And I'm getting like 10fps in Oblivion =(

Now, my PSU has 2 12v rails...one with 22a and one with 20a...but a total of only 360w on those rails (So really 30a combined)...I'm not sure if that is sufficient for Crossfire?

However, if the PSU was my problem, wouldn't my system be shutting down in games or be unstable? Neither one of these are occuring...it's just that crossfire seems to not be working at all.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. I'm thinking of running to Best Buy and grabbing the Antec NeoHE 550 and seeing if that solves the problem, but before I go spend $150 on that, I'd like to know if there's anything else I can try.

Mad Dog psu = bad. imo. I would say that's likely your problem...CrossFire + dual core is just about the most demanding power config you can have for a PC. you should have around 600W minimum I think.. but 700W on up is recommended. Anyways, when you drop back to single card mode does performance improve? Do you have the ability to try another more powerful psu to see if that fixes the issue?

Ok, I took the X1900XT out and just ran the Crossfire card and got back to my old score of 6500 in 3dmark06...so yea, in single card mode, performance improves. Unfortunately I don't have another powerful PSU that I could try. I think I will go buy the neohe 550 since it is Crossfire certified and it has 42a on the 12v. I'll post again after I do that.

Edit: Just took the Crossfire card out and tested with the X1900XT and same thing...6500 in 3d06...so single card is definitely working.
 
Update: Got the Antec NeoHE 550 PSU and Crossfire is working in 3DMark06...I got a score of 9874...I believe that's appropriate for Crossfire right? However, it's still not working in Oblivion. I'm using Catalyst 6.8 with the chuck patch. Any help would be appreciated.
 
that seems about right.. nice that it works now! :) not sure on Oblivion.. I have yet to even run it after I installed it earlier today.. maybe you need to patch Obliv to ver 1.1?
