Crossfire issue

I am running Windows 8 64 Bit, 2 x 6950 2GB Powercolor cards and the second card is not kicking into 3d clocks. To test this, I ran Crysis 1 and the FPS is better with just one card. Then I ran GPUz in the background and verified that the second card is not kicking into 3d clocks at all.

I downloaded Trixx, installed it and disabled ULPS. (It did not help.) I have a Thermaltake 850 Watt powersupply as well. The drivers are 12.10 and when I test with 3dMark 11, the score is where it should be. (Graphics score of 10250 or so.)

Besides drivers, what other ideas do you guys have? Thanks.

Tried it with 12.10 caps 2 and one crossfire bridge. However, that did not help. :(

Oh well, thanks for the non help I guess. I also tried installing the 13.1 drivers after removing the 12.10 drivers. However, that did not help. If I figure it out, then I will post the results. (At least someone will be helped.)

Wow I'm shocked noone chimed in, What are your specs?

Motherboard, cpu, power supply, ram etc..

Are you running the game full screen or windowed?

Also have you tried each card by itself or just one of the 2 cards alone, if just one of the 2 try each alone to see if they score similar or the same.

Check bios settings and the mobo manual to ensure multicard options (if any) are set correctly and primary video or init disp first is set to pcie instead of integrated or any other option. Also check the motherboard manual to ensure you have the second card in the right slot to allow for proper multi card accelleration.

Try using driversweeper to remove all drivers related to video cards AMD or nvidia in safe mode then reboot and do a clean install of the latest drivers from AMD. Try other games aside from the first Crysis.

Thank you for the response. ASRock 990FX, FX8120 at 4400Mhz, 16GB of GSKill ram at 1333, Thermaltake 850Watt Powersupply, games running in full screen. (The Cards are Powercolor 6950 2GB cards unlocked but not overclocked.)

Cards are in the correct slots and GPUz reports 16x for both slots. I tried both cards individually and they work. I also tried different crossfire bridges. 3DMark 11 shows the right score but Crysis, Crysis Warhead and Crysis 2 all show worse performance with crossfire enabled.

It used to be working too which is what is strange. I cannot do driversweeper because I am running Windows 8. (Also, the Modern apps would end up broken after running that.) The crossfire x symbol shows that it is running in crossfire but is not performing correctly.

I tried resetting my bios but that did not help either. The 12.10 drivers are what I am using as well.

Your 3DMark is good. Try running Furmark full screen and check that both GPUs are near 100%. If not you could be running into power/thermal issues.

Those are games are old. Do you have anything newer to check?

I downloaded and ran furmark at 1920 x 1080 fullscreen. Crossfire was enabled and both GPU's were running at 99%. Also, both cards were at full 3d clocks. (Good and bad all at the same time.)

Edit: Excuse me well I go pound my head on the desk: *Pound, pound, pound!* I ran skyrim and got a pink screen. I am waiting for Max Payne to update and I will run that.

Well, even Max Payne 3 plays worse with crossfire enabled. :( Edit: Also, the pink screen went away with crossfire disabled.

Are both cards bios switches in the same position? ( I forget if the 6950 has this option)

Why are you using 12.10 drivers? Try with the latest beta's (13.2 Beta 2) or 13.1 WHQL.

I did try the 13.1 earlier with the same results. Also, I just flashed the original roms back on the cards but that changed nothing. :( (The cards still do work on their own though.)

Start an admin command prompt, run:

bcdedit /set useplatformclock true

HPET windows force fix, helps with crossfire. Reboot

Make sure you have both Crossfire and Crossfire for unknown apps enabled. Also, 12.11 cap2 is the lastest cap. 12.10 cap typo?

Applied it but it did not help. You are correct, it was the 12.11 cap2 caps. I also brought the computer to work and have it on a bench right now. It is dvi to vga instead of HDMI but it still occurs none the less.

Well, I reinstalled Windows 8 X64 on a blank harddrive. I then downloaded and installed the 12.10 drivers to keep everything the same. I installed steam and I am now installing Skyrim. I will let you know what happened in a couple of hours.

Well, the Skyrim game worked fine in the new install of windows. (Good to know the hardware is all good.) Now I am going to try a new windows user account and see what happens. Edit: On the original windows install that is.

*Sigh* :( A new user account did not work either. I just do not want to redo everything from scratch. I have nearly 800GB on my main drive with 75% of that being games.

I just tried running 3dmark 06 and received the same problem as well.

Dude, you don't lose your games when you reinstall windows. Dupe the hard drive to an external and when you're done copy them back over. For Steam it's the Steamapps and Userdata folder, then verify game cache and it will reinstall without downloading everything. For non-steam games use Gamesave Manager to make sure your saves are preserved.

Even Win7 will rot if you do a lot with it. I recently had to reinstall from scratch and it took about a day to get everything back on.

Lets see, 25 steam games, 12 gamefly games, 3 origin games, 4 GOG games, 6 amazon digital download games, 12 boxed games and at least 1/2 dozen other games or so. SSD Cache, windows updates, downloads, documents, pictures, music, MS Office, utilities, Video players and rippers, and on and on and on.

Yes, redoing from scratch is going to take a whole lot more than 1 day for me. I also have 3 x 1TB drives setup in a storage spaces drive with 500GB of stuff in it. (Ripped movies, ISO's, downloaded games and VHD's.) So, redoing from scratch would be better if it could be avoided.

Do you mean through the uninstall programs or do you mean something like driversweeper? The former yes, the latter no because it is known to cause damage to a windows 8 installation. (So I have read anyways.)

Just incase someone else needs the solution, this is what I found to fix it: Manually remove and reinstall AMD drivers Once I did what the directions in the third post said to do, the problems went away. :D It works now and since I am using windows 8, I could not use the automated driver removal programs.
