crossfire issue

i am having trouble with my crossfire setup,I ran single card no problem,but after installing the second card I started getting screen flickering off and on and can not overclock my second card,as soon as I move the slider and hot apply my system locks up then restarts.

If I install one of the cards it works fine,It does not matter what card I use,single card works,Ive tried different slots,installing drivers after inserting each card and nothing seems to work Ive tried multiple suggestions from google searching and cant get it working.

I am using windows 7 64 bit,with 2 5830's,750W psu.

also in msi afterburner when I select the second gpu it does not display driver version,just some numbers.
 
The crossfire card aka #2 will match the clocks of the first card. If you overclock the first card and it is stable when you actually commit to a game and the card load clocks, there is a resting state clock that is low to save power, the xfire card will then attempt to match the clocks of the firrst card.

This is true with the 6990. If your main card is the 6990 and your second card is a 6970 the 6970 will actually down clock to match the slower 6990.

I am sure if I am wrong I will be corrected but this is how I understand it to be.
 
Thats the thing,even when I enable synchronization the bottom card will still freeze the system when the clocks are changed,right now the 2nd card is running stock just fine,but I would like to be able to overclock that card as well.

Sounds simple but have you replaced the crossfire bridge incase it's faulty? especially since both cards work fine by them selves.

Are they the same brand? you could try flashing both cards with the same generic bios of your choice if they are ref design and diff brands.(or try looking for an updated bios if they are the same model)
 
The cards are the same brand and model number,I replaced the crossfire bridge,still the same problem,I'm completely stumped,I guess running one stock and the other oc'ed is how it's gonna have to be,unless some one has had this issue and fixed it.
 
Have you tried any other program to overclock the 2nd card, i have a gigabyte m/b but their homebrew overclocking software locks the system if i try even a 1mhz o/c and hit apply.

I did have flickering on my eyefinity with crossfire but it forced the screens to 4800 x 900 and the 5760 x 1080 res disappeared even after complete reinstall.
 
Yea I tried using ccc as well as sapphire trixx,I'll try rbe as soon as I get some extra time to try and edit the clocks right into the bios,kinda sucks that it has to be done that way.
 
could simply be that your second card doesnt want to be overclocked. not all cards are the same, regardless of stickers.
 
It overclocks fine,it just won't do it when its not the primary card,that's the thing here,neither card is able to oc if it is not the primary,I think I may try to dummy plug it if editing the bios doesn't work
