I'm on the waiting for Vega train, but with the possibility that it will be pushed to later into 2017, and with these low cost nitros, I'm considering an upgrade from my 290's to a pair of nitro fury's for better 4k performance.

My concern is the Nitro OC cooler is something like 2.5 slot, and experience has showed me that having cards that close can be bad for temps. But, the cooler on those cards is huge, so I suppose they could pull it off.

So, the question. Anyone running a pair of these in a mb with three slot spacing, and if so, how are your load temps.

No, no 1070 or 1080, I have a 42" 4k free sync panel, and I'm not ditching it.
 
does your panel do 1440p? I mean that is still a sufficient resolution up until this point, you can roll with 4k with vega. I have a lg 4k monitor and I am not getting rid of it either, not interested in crossfire either plus I have a mini itx board. Grabbed an open box fury nitro from newegg for 249.99 and I am rolling with it until vega comes out. I will be running it at 1440P until then, still an upgrade from 1080p I had. I assume you are using a tv? Because I don't know of any 42 inch monitors with freesync capability.

oh I don't think nitro oc cooler is 2.5 slot. The cooler is lined pretty well with the outer edge of the slot, its not 2.5 from what I have been seeing in the pics. If the cooler sticks out a quiet bit from the second slot looking at it from the side then it could be considered 2.5 slot. It might be tiny bit bigger, but dont think its that big. I guess I will find out soon lol

I had that problem with my case and msi 390x gaming, it fit in my case but the problem with that was the fans stuck out past the fan shroud and they rubbed against the bottom of the mini itx case. This cooler doesn't seem to have that as fans are inside the shroud.

Its on the bottom. Tiny bit but not a whole lot. My concern is usually fan blades being outside of the shroud like its on msi gaming cards for 390x. Looks like you should be fine. Its not a whole lot. If you are not overclocking shouldnt be too bad. But as always in crossfire you would have higher temps on the main card, its just always the case. 5-10c.

Korean import. UHD420, 42" 42-60 freesync.

It will do 1440, but it looks like shit. 1080p does ok since it ends up dividing nicely 4:1.

I had my reference 290's in this board, they were hot to start and being that close didn't help. I'm on mobile today, but the pics I saw , plus the one you posted, show it being slightly larger than 2 slot, hence my concern.

If I could return them, no harm, no foul, but neweggs exchange only VGA policy is giving me hang ups.

Fuck it. Its only money.

Yep excactly my point. I scored an open box at 249.99. I couldn't turn it down lol. I had to try my freesync monitor. its 4k but I am happy with 1440p freesync for now, and it should give me plenty of power at the res. I have a 980ti I am selling just to try out freesync. Its just sitting there why not use it.

Grabbed a pair. I needed to drain and service the loop anyways, so it's a good excuse. Totally overkill now with just the cpu, but I'll go back to full water when vega comes out.
 
The freesync range on that monitor is actually 40-60hz. I lowered mine to 33-60hz using cru

I did the same thing last year, used to run nvidia cards until I got this monitor. It's been a pretty good experience so far

I saw the info about modifying the range on freesync monitors, never got around to trying it. It's impressive that you got yours as low as 30.
 
Yea if you get a good one these wasabi mango uhd4xx series really is amazing. Last year sure was a great year for monitors.

Was going to recommend one of those dual chip r9 390 8gb cards, think they come air cooled and water cooled on one pcb. I think one of those would be really cool
 
I can confirm that the Nitro is larger than 2 slots by enough that you need to have 3 slots between cards. Bottom card hits my revodrive. I had to pull it and get a pcie x4 extension cable to move it to the last slot in the case.

oh dang. Lets hope the fans don't stick out the shroud like the msi r9 390x cuz that card was a pain. The fans rubbed the bottom on my mini itx case. Crossing my fingers.
