Hey guys, this is my first time trying crossfire and I am having trouble. Currently I have 2x7970s in crossfire and want to connect just 1 monitor to the main card. I have tried using a DVI-D to DVI-D and an DVI-I to HDMI to the main card but get no display after the POST and RAID info. The only thing that is giving me display is currently a VGA to VGA with a VGA to DVI-D adapter
 
Do you get display after windows loads?
Check your motherboard settings and set primary display to PCIE.
 
I am running Windows 8 and I get display up to the little loading circle before it goes to the desktop. I already changed the primary display to PCIE. Right now my main card is the XFX DD 7970 Black Edition and the monitor is a Viewsonic VA2248.

Try plugging your monitor into the other card i had similar issues on my 6970 xfire when randombly the system would think the top card was not the primary.
 
Have you disabled the onboard video? Sounds like a driver issue where the machine switches over to onboard. Try connecting the monitor to the motherboard video out and then seeing if windows sees the cards.

Tried all the connections on both cards.

Will try to find and disable onboard video, I tried plugging in a DVI to HDMI to the onboard HDMI but no display.
 
I am running on an Asus Maximus Hero VI btw and already set the Primary display to PCIE. Right now I am running on max res of the monitor, 1920x1080 but this is only working through a VGA to VGA cable with a DVI-I adapter to the main card
 
Is it possible that windows is setting a non supported refresh rate/resolution?
 
I tried both with a 1920x1080 max res monitor and a 1680 x 1050 max res monitor
 
I've had that problem myself last summer. Solved it by uninstalling the drivers, reboot and reinstalled all but the HDMI driver, which would fail and/or hang the system. Then rebooted again and it worked.

My suggestion is that you keep the driver installation to a minimum, one checkbox at the time and only the most necessary.
