Crossfire bridge cable

I ordered a motherboard which came with no crossfire cable. So I assumed it would be included with my GPUs. But it was also not included ( my own fault I guess, for not checking.)

My video cards are Sapphire Radeon HD 6950 (OC Version.) Apparently other Sapphire 6950 models DID come with the cables.

No one local carried them, so I had to order them online (pricey as I ordered next day, but that's my choice I guess.)

Anyway, the real question here is whether any crossfire cable will work with my cards. The description claimed would work with any card in the same series I believe. A local merchant I called said that they should have come with my mobo because not all mobos used the exact same type of crossover cable - I never heard of such a thing. Was he right or wrong?
 
Uhhh he was mainly wrong. SLI cables come with the motherboard, and the only reason why he would say that is because sometimes the slots were 2 or 3 slots apart so a perfectly fitting SLI cable would be the same distance apart. Basically you couldn't use a 2 slot SLI cable if the slots were 3 slots apart. Back then the SLI bridges were made of PCB rather than the flexible cable they are made with now.

Crossfire cables typically come with the card. i guess if a mobo manufacturer had a weird slot setup then they would include their own.
 
Hey thanks! I even asked him if he was thinking SLI...I am a technical guy, being a software engineer, and having built many PCs in the past, and my BS detector was firing off when he was speaking...

I am used to salespeople being wrong :)

Anyway, I definitely should have checked to make sure I had a cable, so my bad.

The sad side, is after buying both cards, the first being a reasonable $200 (given the 6950s peformance,) and the second being $250 AND then having to NEXT DAY the bridge cable, I could have bought a single card for $480!

So I will be interested in the results on the new bench tests once the cable arrives :) [Assuming nothing else goes wrong with this build, lol]

Yes, any CFX cable that attaches to the PCB should work (the old DVI dongles won't though =P).
 
I think you can justify the crossfire setup -

3D Mark 11; Performance : P9884, X3309 (This with an i7-3770, with slight overclocking which definitely helps the physics part of the score)

Almost doubled the score ( P5674 and X1769 previously)

And I turned off the video card OC for now, until I have time to tune them both.
