Hi
I'm planning to go crossfire soon and I think my powerstream 520 won't be enough
should I even try because I don't want anything to blow up,
or just get the gameXsream 700W
any help would be appreciated

Nothing is going to "blow up" if you use your 520 with Crossfire.

Matter of fact, it'll probably work just fine.

Yeah, if anything your system will just shut down. But I would recommend getting a better PSU just to be sure of stability and leave a little headroom. Also check out the XClio GreatPower 700W or 750W.

A single large 12v for Crossfire is probably a better plan. ;)

Is that the green or blue LED fan version of the 520ADJ you have?

If it's the blue fan, I'd definitely keep it.

its got the green fan, i gues time will tell if this PSU going to make it or not
I might to try Conroe and CrossFire will see what happens
Thanks

well, let me jump in.

I had a ocz 520 sli, and i dont know if i got a bad one but it wouldnt even boot my rig after going with sli 7900gtx, and crossfire is way more power hungry than sli. i bought a fsp fx700-gln, problems all went away

heres my rig

msi diamond plus,x24400@2750(10x275)on a si-120 w/86.4 120mm fan ,sli'd 7900gtxs,2 gigs ocz pc4000 platinum xtc,x-fi platinum,2 dvd burners and 5 120mm case fans in thermaltake armor

I think id plan on a new psu if going the crossfire route

It would be if both PCI-E leads ran out of just one 12v rail, but as I understand in this PSU and the GameXStream they are divided. I'm still not 100% sure, but if this is in fact true then these new Quad 12v rail PSU are better suited for CrossFire.

Yes and no.

PCI-e-1 is on 12V4 by it's lonesome.

PCI-e-2 is on 12V2 with CPU-2.

So if you're going to run SLI/Crossfire and your board needs an 8-pin EPS, I suggest NOT using the 8-pin and only using the 4-pin, since GPU's are requiring more juice than CPU's these days. :(

Therefore PSUs like the XClio GreatPower and OCZ GameXStream are better suited for CrossFire?

They can be better than a dual 12V rail power supply, yes.

Similar problem to the ST60F. It's a quad rail, but both PCI-e's are on the same rail. So in worst case scenarios, it's best to move one of the video cards over to a Molex adapter.

In other words, get a quad-rail if it's in the budget, but be mindful of how the rails are distributed.
