have 2 x 7950 and the top temp is at 72 C and the bottom is at 86 C
I'm pretty sure this is very unusual
anyone have ideas or suggestions on how to lower it?

my case is a corsair 650d
with an H100 paired with 2 cougar 120mm blowing air out of the top exhaust

and a scythe gentle typhoon blowing air out of the case

200mm bitfenix spectre pro blowing air into the case

i have a coolmaster 200mm on top to see if it lowers the temp which is negligible

lol you are clearly following me there. Since he didn't indicate that he had switched them I figured it would be basic trouble shooting and assumed he would know that but you never know.
 
i did and the same thing happens--maybe slightly cooler (2-3 degrees) it seems like
but I don't see anything wrong with my current setup though and my 3rd 7950 will be here soon so I'd like to fix anything that's wrong.
 
Really don't see what's so complicated about this:

1) Top card is blowing hot air down. Bottom card is also blowing hot air down. PSU is heating up beneath both of these.

2) Bottom card will get hotter unless the hot air around it is removed at a fast rate. Unless pic deceives me, this ain't happening except for PSU fan (which imo should be used for air flow not heat exhaustion, as no PSU fan I've come across is any good at the latter due to it creating its own heat).

3) From the pic, there's little to no airflow underneath the bottom card, only the top card, meaning (other than by convection) the hot air blown out from bottom card will stay there a lot more than the hot air blown out from the top card. PSU right underneath the bottom card isn't helping either, and again, you're kidding yourself if you think PSU will push out enough air to make up for all the hot air being pushed down onto it.

Tip: either get another case more suited for CFX/SLI or go watercooled. Easy way to test this is to run your system at max load without the side cover. If temps are lower (or pretty much the same) without the side on, then you might as well go open air since your case and its fans aren't helping worth a shit. With an efficient case designed for cooling, temps should be significantly lower than open air due to air flow optimization. Otherwise, wtf did you pay that money for except noise insulation and looks?

650D may be great for a lot of things, but CFX it ain't.

HDD trays could be keeping the air from getting to the bottom there but the side fan should make that a non issue, worth a shot to remove what HDD's you can and see what temps you get then.
 
i tried the fans and it keeps the temp basically the same
with the side case off its 85--- and I agree about the bottom--it was cleaning but I needed to use the connectors---I think I'll upgrade soon--in the mean time I'll probably keep it bare
 
i put in one of the $5 exhaust fans between the gpus and both now under load are 62-65 C
 
i was going to say, my prior sli configuration ran about as hot. I think due to the fact that both cards were warming each other due to the air not being able to escape from between them.

I put exhaust fans above each to take the air out of the back of the case and voila, problem solved.
