New guy here, but have been lurking for a bit...

First here are my system specs:

i7 920 @ 3.8 Ghz
eVGA x58 micro
24 GB Patriot Sector 7 1333 RAM
Corsair Force 3 120 GB HD
2x Sapphire 6970 w/ latest 11.10 and CAP4
Rosewill 1000w PSU
Monitor Res: 1920x1200
Win7 Pro x64


I have been reading various threads and reviews by other folks and the general consensus is that even at 2560x1600 these cards should be able to run it at ultra in game settings and near max AA settings.

So I have a fresh install of windows, fresh install of everything, brand new build basically. I leave the CCC settings as-is and set my in game BF3 settings to all ULTRA (minus motion blur, don't know if I really like that effect) and I get the feeling I am not getting what I should be out of these cards. I am averaging about 60 fps, min being around 42 and max being around 65. It feels very laggy/stuttery, not buttery smooth as I would expect. I have used crossfire setups in the past and so I dont think it is a "micro stuttering" issue. My temps all linger around 65-70 at full load.


This is on MP, so I don't know how much difference it makes. I read the sticky'd article about BF3 IQ and performance and they seem to be getting much higher FPS at a higher resolution.

Am I doing something wrong? Should I be setting things in CCC differently? Or am I just expecting too much?

also if you're using 11.10 official release you need to have 11.9 CAP4 installed, if you using 11.10 preview 3 you need to remove CAP
 
Are you using MSAA? I run a similar setup, with a 2600k, at 2560x1600 everything Ultra but no MSAA, just the FXAA.
 
disable hyperthreading and monitor gpu usage during gameplay. if it's not 90%+ then you probably have a cpu or ram bottleneck.
 
I have the same problem, except I'm only at 1920x1200, and it just doesn't feel smooth at all. I'm going to try some of the things listed here and see if it helps.
 
It should be screaming and smooth, im running 3 6970's in Tri-Fire and if i disable 1 card and downclock my CPU to just 3Ghz im still getting 60 to 90 Fps with Ultra settings in game. With all 3 cards i get 100 to 180Fps in MP
 
thanks for the replies. I disabled HT and it did help make it stutter less, but I'm still maxing out at around 63 fps. I have MSI afterburner on while I am playing and both gpus are going up above 90%.

I will also mess with the msaa and fxaa settings.

Didn't increase my FPS but smoothed the gameplay out considerably for me,

Go into options turn mouse sensitivity down to 25%

Turn Raw mouse input to ON

Turn slider look sensitivity all the way up to max

I've got a trifire setup with 6950x6970x6950 on an Asus M3A79-T with an AMD 985 OC'd to 4.2GHz. 30" U3011 at 2560x1600. My FPS stays in the low 50s. Very little difference with MSAA and 16x AA on or off. GPUs run around 50% load. Currently running 11.11 with 11.11 CAP 1.

Turning settings down to high doesn't improve FPS. CPU always runs in the 90% plus range regardless of video settings. I've read that CPU shouldn't matter too much with BF3 but I'm going to see if I can OC it more.

Yea, holy hell it should be screaming.

I've also heard from quite a few people that MSAA has been causing big problems since release.
 
grab the latest drivers and cap, 11.11 I believe. I installed it, game runs a bit smoother, though I had no issues before @ 1920x1200 with 6970s in xfire, I'm running a very similar system to yours. Also I was running MSAA and FXAA or w/e it is in game :)

920 @ 4.2ghz, 12GB, Vertex 3, and 6970s in xfire.

Also go into the overdrive controlls, and turn the power thing up to +20%. I find this helps in most games.

Also I didn't disable HT, once you get the latest driver / CAP that should resolve as well, Another thing I noticed, is that when I didn't give my 920 enough juice, performance would suffer but it wouldn't crash. if none of the above helps. try going down to 3.6ghz or upping the voltage if you have cooling headroom.
 
Using pretty similar setup I get 55-65 using a single card at 1920x1200 Ultra (no MSAA) with the ocassionalu dip into the mid 40's. Using both cards in CF I get 110-125 FPS (scaling in BF3 is awesome) with the same settings with occasional dips below 100. With MSAA 4X I find a single card is 30-40FPS and two cards run in the 80-85FPS range.

Sounds to me like CF isn't working right for your or something.
 
Why does it feel like low fps even though it never dips below 60fps? Enabling v-sync smooths it out, but there is a lot of mouse lag. Anyone experiencing this?
