can i crossfire a 4870 with a 3870x2 and if i can what kind of results do you think i will get if i can
 
With SLi I know you can, but you will get the weaker cards performance out of the better card. In Crossfire I don't believe you can. Possibly later?

were you joking? if you were not I seriously dont know what you were talking about, sli can not mix cards, you have to have the same card, though it can have different clocks. with ati you can mix the same generation of cards.

to answer the OP's question, no you can not mix the hd 3870x2 with 4870, they are two differeent architecture, even I don't think it would be wise to do it because it would limit the potential of hd 4870 greatly.
 
I thought the hybrid crossfire was the idea of buying a motherboard with onboard graphics, then adding a card later on and using both at the same time... Allowed you to run more monitors (using the video-card + the onboard I think) and increased performance. Since a lot of motherboards have video-chipsets onboard that rarely get used if you upgrade.

But regular crossfire works within a generation... SLI works with the same core/model... You can use any 8800 GTX with another 8800 GTX, but not an Ultra... Can't mix GTS 320 vs. 640 either.. same basic core, but need to be basically the same model.

Anyways, I only ran SLI once and wasn't a fan... I should have just bought an 8800 GTX instead of what I did buy... =/
