With the price of the 290X cards bottoming out would it be worth getting a 2nd one to run in crossfire even though my monitor is only 1080P? I know my cpu won't be a bottleneck I'm running an i7 4790k.

Prob only if you are using a monitor that supports 100-144 frame rate would it be worth it.

Then you would also need a 1000+ watt ps and ample cooling.

I'd just say wait for the new cards to come out and prices to level off and get something new thst runs just as fast but with a single card.

Waste at 1008P plain and simple. Same your money for a new monitor. 1440P or better. Trust me once you have a 27inch 1440P monitor you never want to go back.

Serious waste at 1080P. I'm running two 6950's in crossfire at 1080P, and can play most current games on ultra. (mainly DA:I recently) worst case, I have to drop a few filters in quality. The cards are over four years old.

I'll second the above in saying that you should look at a 1440P monitor or 4k monitor. Your video card ain't the bottleneck xD

It would be good for the future thats for sure but overkill for right now.

Overkill? Waste? Sure, if you are using a 60hz monitor. And even then, it still won't be sufficient in all circumstances if you want to play games at max settings.

No, 1440-p sucks hard. 1440-p is stuck with a blurry 144Hz. Strobed 240Hz 1080p is where it's at. Obviously, you do need to build the driver board and backlight circut for the monitor, as no LCD does 240Hz at stock, but once you do, 240FPS is amazing.

for now run VSR. I love it, but it did make me shift from being perfectly happy with my monitor to all of a sudden desiring a bigger and higher resolution.

I have a 290x+290 and game at 1080p/60hz. I don't regret it a bit. Sure, the 290 series doesn't stretch its legs until you get up into higher resolutions, but they're still great performers and at their current price it's hard to say no. I can max out every game I have, and can use VSR in games that don't stress the cards much.

If you have some cash to burn/ play with go for it. I have 2 290x's on a 1440p and feel like it is overkill, but am waiting for a 4k monitor to not be ridicilous in price / performance.
