my maxtor 120GB plus9 8mb cache hard drive seems corrupted.
it has loads of cross linked files since when i do a windows scan disk it says it cannot scan/complete the scan drive since it is full data. yep it is full of data but i have no where else to back up 100+ GB of data. and so i booted into MSDOS and used scanprog which is the blue DOS version of scandisk. it reported i had loads of cross linked files which couldnt be fixed since it kept on scanning up to 88% and then freezing. (so i had to switch off PC) and everytime it boots up it will go into the msdos scandisk where i have to exit it otherwise it will freeze at 88%. so im guessing i got an error with the HD around the 88% area.

when i exit the scandisk and boot into win98. yes im running win98 btw. and i look at the HD files. it shows i got 200mb mp3s and 64kb films which are meant to be like 700mb mark! :(
