ockie even your 30+ hdd setup wouldn't need 1KW psu if you used staggered spin up. You can run any current sli setup with a good 600-700W psu. So unless someone is talking about multi cpu/multi gpu server/workstation setup there is no need for 1KW psus.

Incorrect. A Quad-FX with 8800 GTX SLI and only four hard drives (even with staggered spin up) will post but fail to boot into Windows with anything less than a 700W. Nevermind running any benchmarks.

And even if I'm running with a 700W or 800W, I don't get warm fuzzies from running a PSU at 80% of it's capability for long periods on end... unless for some reason I liked to throw money away on a new PSU every year. But I'd rather spend that money on graphics cards.

1000HX? Cool a new high end with the modular cables. If I ever actually need a 1K PSU I'll have to take a look lol.
