What do you guys think? Should I change anything? I’m planning on overclocking the CPU to 3.6 or so, and am new to it but know the basics, and want to learn how to overlock.

Thanks :D

Still left with one choice, which ram would be best for that setup, and a person like me. I like the mushkin level II stuff, but the corsair sounds popular.

I don't prefer the case, but that's all it is - preference. Make sure you've got a quality PSU, and it looks like you're good to go!

The Athlon 64 is a better candidate for a gaming rig. Overall, it has a 5-15% performance advantage compared to its Intel counterpart. The Athlon 64 3000+ is also less expensive. Don't get me wrong, though, the 3.0C will do fine too.

don't really like the case but that's apersonal preference.

Everything else looks good.

agree with people above, great system besides the case. get what you like though, hardware is most important and youve got it listed.

Stick with the case. I have an X-Superalien, and I wouldn't trade it for any other case.

Wow man, thanks for those pictures. The case looks amazing in the dark. BTW hows the cooling on the case?

i, too, don't like the case, but everything else looks good (w00tage for Mushkin :))

w00t! 900th Post!! :):)

I would get either 2.4C or the 2.6C and up the FSB to 250. I own both the 2.4C and 3.0C and my 2.4 rocks because of the FSB.

I would definitely get a Raptor for gaming. You wont be sorry.

I would go with the Antec Sonata. Simply a great case. Quiet, cool and has side mounted drive cage.

pay the extra couple bucks and get a dvd drive instead of a cd drive. even if u dont plan on watching dvds on ur computer, some time or another you will be glad you have it.....

and stick with the corsair xms, muskin level 2 is like 50% more money. and the only real reason u would need mushkin is for #1 extreme overclocking, but u wont need to overclock pc3700 ram much at all. and #2 to keep super low latencies, but pentium 4s dont even benefit much from slightly better timings.

ok, i may have found a problem, it would seem to me that my friend has an slk900a, and he is running an athlon xp 2500+. now last time i checked, the athlon and the p4 did not use the same heatsinks. but thats why you put the zalman 7k on there, right?

I would say go with an Athlon 64. I am running one in an sonata case. <config below.> I am VERY happy with it. Except for the damn blue led's... these mother effers are BRIGHT. I am gonna disconnect them next time I power off the system.

Looks good to me. Get the RAM you can afford, both are good (maybe your MB manufacturer says that one runs better in your MB). The Pentium 3.0 is fine as well. Definitely look into getting a DVD burner though.

In response to a previous statement, the SLK900A is only for Athlons (hence the A at the end). The SLK900U is for both (hence the U, which stands for universal).

Good Luck with your new build!

Im sticking to the case since its the most available one, and the only one that comes with a awesome PSU.

Also, could someone tell me if the Raptor makes that much difference while gaming?

While gaming, no. No 7200+ RPM hard drive improves or impedes framerates. While waiting for games to load? It's possible, but you most likely won't notice the difference.

I would get the Raptor for gaming, and a 2.6c for overclocking.

You will most definitely notice the difference. Like I said before...........you will not be sorry.

I still disagree. All the games I've loaded as of late have short loading times anyways (on IBM Deskstar 60GXP 7200 RPM drive), so there's not a lot of room for improvement. On my Fujitsu MAP3735 10k RPM drive, the difference wasn't noticeable at all.

I'm not here to argue wether or not you see a difference. I have seen the Raptors in action and use one in my 3c rig. There is a differece without a doubt. I'm not just talking load time for gaming either. The machine feels sharper and more crisp with everything.
