Here is what I ahve come up with so far. Total cost is in the 1500 ball park which is where I would like to stay.

Case: Antec SLK3000B
PSU: OCZ ModStream 520W Power Supply
CPU: Opteron 165
RAM: OCZ Platinum Edition 2GB (2 x 1GB) (3-3-2-8) PC4000
HD's: 2xWD 250gb 16mb cache SATA (Raid 0)
MoBo: Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe
Vid: XFX OC'ed GeForce 7900GT PCI-E 256MB 520MHz/1.5GHz
DVDR: Lite-On IDE SHW-160P6S, 16X DVD

Anything I should change or add?

Any places I could save a few bucks without losing too much performance?

looks good to me. i was gonna recommend some slightly slower and much cheaper PC4000 G.Skill (2GB 3-4-4-8) ram, but i don't know if you'd like to take a mild performance hit for the sake of a hundred bucks. overall, i think you've got the right idea there!

Get this PSU instead.
Umm... id stay far away from that, tried googleing it, only could find a few stores selling it, all with the exact same paragraph, even enhances website doesnt have that psu on it, never heard of enhance before either, stick with the psu you picked over that one.

Safety Approvals: Pending
thats from his link, yeah definatly stay away.

To be honest I wasn't sure how much of a difference the timings make....I mean will the timings i listed be a noticable difference than the ones you listed?

This computer will NEVER run benchmarks, it will only run games...so If i only lose a frame or two, then no biggie, but if it is a 5%-10% overall reduction in speed or some crap....

Aftermarket cooling?

Just out of curiosity...why RAID?
Yeah, was going to see how high it will go on the retail HSF, i heard it is half assed....plus gotta keep the "buy in price" lower than the wifes "head-ache" threshhold. I can always spend 30-50 bucks later on in a couple months with the cash I get out of her car seat.

Why RAID?.....well....the board comes with the controller....the drives were cheaper and faster than 1 500gb one.....I like to live on the edge, I am out of control!.... in otherwords it costs me nothing and I have nothing on my computer other than games, patches. All my pictures, mail, porn are all on networked file server.

and for another 1$, go with SATA II hdds...

I'd also recommend going retail on the DVD burner. gets you the progs and cables and fun stuff.(5$ more)

G.Skill mem(10$ less)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16820231057

for the PSU (for that cheap) I'd go either

or

XG makes some good products, and Xion is just starting out, but is getting some good stuff from somewhere (my roommate has this psu)....both are 1$ more anyways...

And for the love of Pete...get a nicer case. This is where you should spend the extra money.

If the stock heatsink on the Opty has heatpipes, you will have yourself one very impressive and quiet running heatsink. AMD did very well with that one. Here's a massive review. You'll see how well the stock cooler did:

Those were the HD's I had specced out.

Good call on the DVD.

The G-skill memory is (after rebate) 20 dollars higher. (there is a 30 MIR on the OCZ)

Is the PSU not enough umph?

As far as the case goes... I could care less what it looks like, I have a custom built desk and the computers cannot be seen at all. Besides... I like the HD rails antec uses.

Any suggestions on a cheap case that is better than that one for 46 bucks?

Thanks so far on the info.
