Hi all,

I just built this rig for my pops. Upgrade from a p3 800mhz!

CPU: E6400 (on the cheap... ;) )
MoBo: Intel G965RYCK
RAM: pqi TURBO 1GB (2 x 512MB)
Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 SATA 160GB
CD/DVD: LITE-ON Black 16X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW, etc.
Case: ARK A601-2 ATX

Vid/Sound/Networking is all onboard.

When all was said and done, it was around $560 without software, keyboard, mouse, monitor. It's up and stable... but I'm willing to upgrade if the cost is justified by the benefit... I was thinking about getting another 2x512 of RAM. Not sure how much difference in performance he will see in his general use tho. (web surf, email, stuff like that).

Lemme know what ya'll think!

Thanks,
-Nim

I guess you're not a hardcore or weekend overclocker.... in fact, not an overclocker at all? lol. the i965 intel board won't overclock if you sacrificed your life for it. But if you're not, hey, it runs, it's great =). If you're doing file compression and other tasks such as those, this should be good. I don't really see the benefit of another Gig of RAM since usually people use that to game with, unless you also like to open up like 30 windows, listen to music, and do some other stuff while surfing the web.

but if you're more gamer-ish or overclocker-ish....

i'd probably say to go get the Gigabyte DS3 (or S3 if you want to save some money), grab atleast an Nvidia 7300GT< and that extra 2 sticks of RAM.

Stealthy; Yeah, like I said it's for my Dad... he'll be playing solitaire at lightning fast speeds! ;) When it comes time to build my new computer, it'll have all the goodies. Thanks for your comments about the RAM, I think I'll just leave it as it is.

Regards,
-Nim
