Critical Flaws Found in Maritime Comms System

Critical flaws have been found on Startos Global's AmosConnect that can allow attackers to access sensitive information or even control a ship's IT network. AmosConnect is used for a ship's IT infrastructure and is deployed in thousands of ships with very few updating 10 to 15 years old software. Although these flaws do not affect a ship's navigation system network, it can be troubling as NotPetya shutdown the largest ship terminal in Los Angeles.

"Essentially anyone interested in sensitive company information or looking to attack a vessel's IT infrastructure could take advantage of these flaws. This leaves crew member and company data extremely vulnerable, and could present risks to the safety of the entire vessel," Ballano says.

Also of note: Maritime includes offshore oil rigs and platforms, and Stratos has a pretty big footprint in the industry.
