I bought this powersupply from newegg yesterday along with this hard drive and a dvdrw drive. I plan on building a better system (in the workings). Will this psu be good for am2/core duo2 processor riding a ati 2900? or a geforce 8800?

My current rig is..

amd64 3200+ @2.4
1gb of memory
2 7200 HD's
ati radeon X1950 pro
sb live 5.1
dvd/cdrw drive

currently using a 420 and its really unstable.. i had to disconnect 2 of my drives, take out the sound card and the dvdcombo drive (which i think is dying also)

What would you reommend for a CPU/Mobo combo? Looking for something in the gaming performance area.

It depends on your budget. Although, i'd post this sort of thing in the General Hardware forum; you'll get far more replies. Personally, i'd go for an Intel E6600 and probably one of their new P35 chipset motherboards.

P35, or 680i board. E6420 -- the newer E6600's don't OC as well as the old ones, so save some cash therer, I'd say. Definitely get an 8800 series over the 2900HD -- the benchmarks and various heat/power issues speak for themselves there.
