The “expert” that went on TV last week saying Mass Effect contained full nudity and graphic sex scenes has since apologized for making inaccurate statements about a game she never played.

"I really regret saying that, and now that I've seen the game and seen the sex scenes it's kind of a joke," she continued. "I've seen episodes of [the ABC television show] Lost that are more sexually explicit."

Certainly a step in the right direction but how about an on air apology?

Maybe more of these jackass experts will at least think twice about going on air and talking about a game they never actually played.

The best part is that all her books on Amazon have been blasted and have 1 star now :D. Gamers took this one personally and responded accordingly.

Good for her to apologize but you don't get on TV and just start saying negative things about something especially when you really have no knowledge regarding it.

I hope there are ripple effects through the industry here.

These TV execs need to know that the gaming community doesn't let crap like this go on unchecked.

If you are going to interview an "expert" you damn well better make sure they know what they are talking about. Oh and an EXPERT author does not make your qualified to talk about a game you never played.

Heck an EXPERT gamer should not be interviewed about a game they never played. It is just that simple.

No experience = no opinion.

I've never seen Rambo, but I don't like it.

So she set her career on somebody else's opinions. I hope she really trusted him because he's completely discredited her over something so dumb.

Why would I take critisim from somebody who has never even seen my game?

If a movie critic had done what she did, they would be out of work, with public - on air apologies, and probably being sued by the production company by now.

well at least she took a breath of fresh air before re-inserting her head in her ass. .

Things like this happen too much. I personally know someone who speaks out against the Harry Potter series and they have never read them. It is all around not good.

Glad she retracted her statement.

Now, the real question is to find out where she got her mis-information originally and cut off their hands.

"I recognize that I misspoke,"

How can you misspeak for five minutes straight?

lol did u see it that? She asked somebody about the game, so that somebody said it was like pornography, so she went on with that information for a 10 minute rant... what a dumb whore.

is she the president of MADD?

that would make sense if she was...

they are against anything and everything

How many other radio or T.V. shows has she given her "expert" opinion on a product she hasn't even used - much less - seen?

On TV, anything is possible. Look at her books on Amazon.com, do you really expect someone like her to admit she is wrong, ever?

yeah, but it is like when a judge tells a jury to "disregard" what they just heard or saw. uhm...ok...yeah, coming right up. get out the popeil pocket neural douche and clean that ugly memory away.

how many people that heard her are also going to follow up on her comments or even this story? hypothetical (i only wish) if you are a "Thompsonite" kind of thinker, then the twists and contortions of her statements have already been added to the fermentation in the anti-video game brain (for want of a better word ). very few, if any who watched f-OX segment is going to read her apology or check things out for themselves. "they saw it on the TV!...it's true!"

the media will not invest a small fraction of the time to enable her apology and "retraction" for her statements. they have their sound byte, and it said what they wanted to get across. besides they already sold the air time to someone.

Be afraid, be very afraid! video games are evil...yadda, yadda, yadda...

it happens all the time. sensationalism for ratings and controversy because it sells. i cannot blame EA for not wanting to go on f-OX (The Angry White man channel). and of course f-OX can always say "We invited them back to clarify....they choose not to appear..."

Don't go fishing today 'Fredo...:p

Is that amoung your friends, or on the air? Doing it in private or amoung a ground of friends at star bucks is one thing. Doing it on air is another.

Normally I'm not a big fan of sueing people. However when it comes to stuff like this I almost think a few people need to be sued so that people start looking into what they are going off about before they go on the air. Be it for books, movies, games, music,.... If a few people got sued for slander for talking crap about a subject they didn't know about then I bet the so called experts would be a little more willing to actually look into what they are talking about.

Let me first of all say that I'm by no means an *expert* when it comes to Ms. Lawrence and her work. However, if you read the reviews of her book on Amazon it is painfully obvious that she has nothing productive to offer.

My question is, how has she made it this far? She must be really good at bullshitting people into believing she has something to say that's worth hearing.

I would love to know where I can write a book as if it were a 10th grade homework assignment and have it published by some unsuspecting jerks. Maybe I will sell enough copies to be able to pay my rent this month.

WOW, I really think she still has no clue. I bet she didn't even say it. Her publisher likely did and just stamped her picture on it.

Bitches be crazy.... :D

I have no respect for this individual. How, as a responsible journalist, can you comment about something you never researched or have no knowledge of? Just shows you the state of media in the US,

LOL, you blaming Fox for something an invited guest to the show says is like blaming [H]ardOCP for something someone says on this forum.

The people at FOX told her specifically what the game was about and the things you could do in the game (all blatant lies of course)...she then gave her opinion on that. ie, she gave her opinion on what the FOX people said about the game.

If you watch the video, you'll even see the FOX lady (show host, I guess) saying all kinds of nonsense like, "you can choose how you wanna have sex" and that the game is like a full-fledged adult movie. All kinds of uneducated comments were made about a game NO ONE IN THAT ROOM had played or even seen.

Don't pull a Fox. Watch the report and all will be clear...

That's easy: Kevin McCullough on ClownHall.com

http://kevinmccullough.townhall.com/blog/g/cdfe6d1d-9595-45c5-bdae-af17bcfd244e

That's where he pretty much apologizes, and has pulled the original article from ClownHall's columnist's page. He got utterly destroyed.

I need to step away from this stuff. Here and I was feeling good about the Cooper Lawrence pwnage and then I just had to read what this total lametard wrote! Was this guy abused by a videogamimg babysitter or what?

Mr. McCullough, don't make me angry! You won't like me when I'm angry!

I do not recall Kyle or anyone of the HardOCP staff inviting me to speak on this forum. There is quite a bit of difference between a public forum, where everyone who is not banned can participate and a TV station that reports the news. In this forum, the barrier to entry is having an e-mail address. Fox claims that they report the truth, therefore the viewer is led to believe that they did at least some basic background checking before inviting someone and labeling them as an expert in a field.

If a [H]OCP staff member invited me to speak on their behalf as an expert on large scale team coordination algorithms, you'd expect that they made sure that I have some idea of what I am talking about. Fox failed exactly at that. At the very best, it's sloppy journalism.

kudos to geoff for doing what he could to defend the game against all those poo-flinging, scare-mongering idiots. and i think i can safely say that that cooper chick is the most condescending person ive ever seen. she had this demeanor about her that made her seem like she was somehow above "reporting" (i use the term liberally) on this issue. made me sick watching it.

Oh, he made a lot of people angry, including getting to be the focus of a Penny Arcade strip:

He simply got pwnt to the point of serious butthurt. Lately he's been a lot less shrill in his blog posts and columns. Having the internets wage war upon you will do thats.
