I have tried to get help from creative on this matter but they suck so here I am...

I have a x-fi pro with the front i/o drive bay

I now have my xbox360 hooked up to my monitor via VGA cord and it works and looks great! The cord has optical out on it, which I plugged into the optical in on the i/o drive. The problem is I cant figure out how to tell the sound card to pull the sound from it.

I know this has got to be a simple checkbox somewhere, but I can not find it anywhere. Not to mention the owners manual says nothing on this.

HELP! I need 5.1 sound so I can hear people creeping up from behind me in Vegas :D

TIA

Off the top of my head, going off my Audigy 4 Pro: the optical inputs will either be considered line-in inputs or S/PDIF-in inputs. Without going through Creative's software, you probably want to get into Volume Control...then Properties...and then the Show the following volume controls: list. Then enable everything, so you can see which inputs are and aren't muted. You should be able to go from there. :)

Selecting "digital input" (instead of aux input) in the mixer should make everything work.

you would think but nothing happens! I had my 360 going on a menu screen which made sound and then was playing mp3s on the pc and it didnt matter what I changed the input to mp3s just kept playing and no sound from the 360 ever

Do you have enabled 'S/PDIF-In decode' in Audio Console?

Do you have enabled 'S/PDIF-In decode' in Audio Console?

hmmmmm...I don't think so, but why would that matter since I am doing nothing with spdif. I am just using the front optical port.

I am at work btw or I would tell you for sure....I get off in 30min though....tick tock

Your using SPDIF in the front optical port! If you don't have decode selested it doesn't know what to do with the signal. This is probably the problem. SPDIF is the technology behind digital connections and some of the transport technologies although the term is used incorrectly alot of the time.

Interesting, I was told by another guy that this will free up when using a Digital I/O module Creative sells I am just not sure why it is not working with the front Bay...you would think that it would...IS there a option with any of your mixers to record from the SPDIF?

As you can see it is greyed out

If you can't enable SPDIF-In decode, you won't get surround. Which specific model do you have? did you installed the I/O drive after the card? is the decoder enabled in the decoder tab? does the decoder work with audio from DVDs? have you tried a clean install of the drivers?

Configuring the output on the Xbox to PCM stereo and unmuting the spdif-in should give you sound (not surround though).

Does your bay also have a Coax SPDIF input? Look like a RCA jack. Maybe you can do a test with a DVD player. Run the Coax to the bay..see if it frees up the drop down box for you.
There is definatley a error somwhere as was pointed out this option should be open to you as the card does decode DD on the SPDIF inputs...
