Creative X-Fi Titanium Rear Speaker Problem

I got an X-Fi Titanium today and hooked it up to my onkyo 7.1 receiver. I clicked the check mark to enable dts encoding, and then started playing around with the channel testing.

It seems as though all the speakers are working correctly, except the rear. When I'm testing the speakers, no noise comes out the rear whatsoever, and the side surrounds identify as the rear left and right speakers for some reason.

I've tried switching the side surrounds with the rears in the channel reassignment tool, but it didn't work. It just stayed the same even though I switched it.

I checked my onkyo receiver -- everything is hooked up right. What am I doing wrong here?

You're right about the 7.1 on spdif (or lack thereof).

Edit: I read the wiki on surround sound and it confirmed that 5.1 features surround left and rights, but not rears. I guess that clears it up for me. The only thing I don't understand is why they call them surround rears instead of sides or just surrounds.

I'm having another problem -- not able to change speaker levels in the creative console. When I click on, for example, the front left 0.0, it gets highlighted so I type in a value like "5", hit enter, and it resets back to 0.0. Additionally, the up and down arrows do nothing.
