Creative X-Fi giving me front audio problems.

Was wondering if anyone is having the same problems as I am. I recently bought the PCI-e X-fi. My case is an Antec 900 case, and if there is anything I hate more is having front audio jacks that do absolutely nothing, so i decided to connect the HD audio connector to the back of the X-FI, for some reason i cant get both jacks to work. then i disconnected and used the ac'97 connector to the back of the X-FI, they dont seem to work, either but im getting strange feedback on my speakers. The weird thing is, in vista, the os picks up the front panel as connected, but i just cant seem to get the mic to work. Is it a possibility that maybe Im connecting to it wrong?

X-Fi only has HD Audio connector so AC97 should not work. HD should though - are you sure you connected the right pins on both ends? IF mic works when connected to the mic input on the card and not on the Antec it must be the connection between these two...
