I have vista 64 ultimate and the specs of my rig are in my sig. I originally installed a sound blaster x-fi pci a while ago and it didnt work. I got a message ' The audio device supported by this application may not be present or may be operating in unsupported mode. You need to close the application. '

I assumed the sound card was bust and uninstalled everything. I just bought the x-fi titanium fatal1ty champion card and i installed everything, updated the driver and software and i got the same darn message. I read around in the forums and it was suggested to uninstall/reinstall. I did that, I even tried to clean out the residual files with ccleaner, but even on the re-install i get the same message.

Any advice?

That's just odd.. Things that come to mind..

- Update BIOS and/or reset your BIOS to default?
- Turn off unused PCI features in the BIOS
- Are they Vista 64 bit drivers?
- Running driver installer as administrator?
- Uninstall the old drivers using the application on the original Creative driver disk. (\Vista\Audio\Drivers\SETUP.EXE)
- Perhaps try the daniel_k support package drivers.
- Disable UAC and reboot, for the driver install (UAC can kill a process and not notify you, which appears as random things simply not working right in Vista).

* Don't update your bios just yet.
* In fact don't touch anything in there until we figure this out. :)
* Ignore any advice about "Daniel_K" completely. It is no longer relevant.

Absolutely make sure you're running the 64-bit drivers by downloading and installing these (ignore the CD that came with it):

Disabling UAC is a good idea though. UserPNP in Vista should work, but I wouldn't doubt the driver install was interrupted somehow.

Your motherboard is pretty common as well as the rest of your rig, so I'm really at a loss to explain the error based on hardware.

i installed those exact drivers and I'm having this issue. Well im going to uninstall everything again. Physically remove the card from the PCI-e slot and poke around in my bios options (im not going to update it just yet). I already disabled my onboard azalia sound, but that was after I had intalled the x-fi and was having issues. It didnt make a difference. Lets see what happens this time around.

Thanks for the help, and I'll get back to you in a few.

UAC is already disabled.

I had problems with that particular package as well, but the driver installation went fine. I was thinking you could try the alternative package if the Creative one wasn't working. lawless2142.. The daniel_k link is just to an updated compile of the latest Creative drivers, I don't think they're baked or modified. They're 3 weeks old so they may indeed be irrelevant by now.

I mention the BIOS since there are fresh updates available for his board. I've had issues with not being able to even install Vista until the BIOS has been updated. Just something to consider, none of it is a you-must-so-this-now kinda thing.

Ok so I physically took out the card. Then I uninstalled everything. Used driver cleaner to clean up any residual stuff left in the reg. Then used ccleaner to wipe out the rest of the program crap. Then I reinstalled the card and used the latest drivers downloaded from the creative website and still no luck. Blurg. I'm going to update my bios (although I think I already have the latest bios).

edit: You guys are right they just released new bios this year. Going to try the f7 bios

I have a core i7 gaming rig, Asus Rampage II extreme running Vista Ultimate x64.

Bought an X-fi Titanium pro pci-e card, installed it with no problems. The latest driver package has full support and in fact comes with a great Auto-update program! Made the install super easy. Works great with no popping, etc. I use optical out to go into my Onkyo 7.1 system running Klipsch speakers.

Updated to f7 bios still same message --

The audio device supported by this application is not detected. The application will exit.

I'm going to uninstall and reinstall again and tell you how it goes.

Uninstalled driver, driver cleaned it, ccleaned, removed from top pci-slot, put it back on top pci-e slot and i still got the same message on re-install... This is frustrating.

Thanks for all your help and input thus far!

any ideas? im about to call creative tech support

turns out the card was fried. The x-fi logo was not lighting up and i noticed some crud around some of the pinouts in the back... Go figure. Had to get another card just to test the issue. geez what a pain in my a$$

thanks for all your help guys!

look at the left side. Should have seen it from the start and realized it was fried, but it was detecting in my device manager so I didn't think much of it. :(
