Is it absolutely necessary to use Creative Volume Control over the standard System volume control when using the Audigy 2? It just feels like it eats system resources to me, if i'm wrong here though, correct me. Just don't want creative totally taking over my volume :).

I don't know about you, but anytime I could avoid using Creative software, it always seemed the right choice to me.

I've found that unfortunately in order to achieve the best sound quality and functionality, particularily from EAX, you MUST install the stupid Creative software. I have an A2ZS and I've installed only the Mixer, Speaker Settings, THX Console, and EAX Console, and the windows drivers, followed by running both updates on the Creative website.

haha, yeah.. i guess that's just the way it would have to be  . *bow s down to creative* ah well, when's my next reformat :D.

It's my impression that audio- and videophiles use the master volume control on the amplifier or speakers whenever possible. You should do the same, for simplicity. Otherwise, the Windows volume control is fine for basic control. I don't know why you would need anything more.
