Ive got the creative 5.1 surround sound system and it has worked great for a few months but then recently when i put the volume quite high and the sub is on a medium level bass, i can hear a rattling noise from the sub and then i have to turn the volume down, i think maybe the sub is going but is there anything i can to do to fix it basically before it gets worse?

Mine used to do that, I just took the amp out of the subwoofer and put it back in. Just take off the 6 screws on the back and find some way to wedge it open. It takes a little force. I used a thumb nail and a flathead screwdriver.

then what do you do with the amp put it back in again? what difference would that make??

Not sure. I'm guessing it was something with the seal that was rattling. Or maybe the wires inside the box hitting the woofer.
