I have a Abit AI7 motherboard, AGP Nvidia 7800gs video card, P4 2.6 overclocked to 3.2 ghz, 2 gb ram. Was having a problem with my onboard sound in Battlefield 2, the voip wasnt working, so i figgured id buy a new sound card. I got a Creative Xfi Extreme Gamer, installed it, and the device manager says my video card cant find enough resources, so its not working, code 12, tried the sound card in a diferent slot, same thing, but when i remove the sound card , the video works fine. I cant figgure out how to get them both to work at the same time, i even reformated and reinstalled my OS, windows XP, same problem. What could cause this problem and how can i fix it, any ideas?

Did you remember to disable the onboard sound in the bios?

Double check these;
Make sure you have the latest BIOS.
Then save "Enhanced BIOS features" reboot.
Lock the PCI BUS at 33MHz.
Make sure Initial Boot is set for video is AGP and not PCI.
Make sure A.P.I.C. is set and NOT PCI.
Disable On-Board sound, there might be two places to do this (Note, this shouldn't cause any problem at all=P)
Disable any Onboard in the Integrated Features section you're not using.
Use Auto for all IRQ settings in the BIOS.
Enable Hyperthreading.
Hit F10 save and reboot. Go back and make sure the settings stuck.

If you've already done this, pretend I didn't post to ya.

I was having trouble getting the latest bios, but i have it now, and its flashed.

I see nothing in my bios about enhanced bios features, and nothing about APIC,
all unused things are disabled, hyperthreading is enabled, IRQs are set on Auto

I'll check my IC7 Max when I get home and tell you exactly where to find the settings for APIC. The Enhanced feature section is on the right side of the main BIOS screen, right near the Load BOIS Failsafe setting.

Ok, i guess i misunderstood your previous post about saving enhanced bios features, my bois saves everything, but i still have nothing anywhere about APIC, however, i disabled everything on my board, including all my usbs, which were using the same irq as my video card, i took out my only other pci card i had, which was for my wireless network, disabled all com ports, onboard sound, Floppy disk controler, all usb support, onboard sound, then i played with the irq settings, however i dont fully understand how they work, as i only had access to change a some of them, 0-7 on the list, but when i changed them the randomly varried from 3-12, depending on what i set to reserve on the other screen, and nothing worked, as long as the sound card is in my system, my video card will simply not work. there is no possible way that it can be short of recourses, as i had my pci network card installed, and i removed it, and put in the sound card, and disabled everything, im thinking it has to be something else. however, im returning that soundcard, and one of my buddies has a creative audigy 2 card hes gonna let me try to see if it works, i should have that card on tuesday, or shortly thereafter.

I have Abit AI7 motherboard, Nvidia 7800gs AGP video card, and i tried the Creative XFI Extreme Gamer soundcard, i dont know if that soundcard and video card are simply incompatable or what, but the sound did work, just not my video, but when i take out the sound, video works great.

PS. I think your thinking of a diferent board that what i have, my enhanced bios features section was on the left side of my screen, and in that section were things like boot order, and stuff like that,

Sorry I was away and missed your message. The setting I couldn't think of was "Load Optimized Defaults" on the right side of the screen. I'am thinking of the a different board didn't think they were that different, they must be.

The Creative XFI Extreme gamer would make sound, but it wouldnt let my video card work, kept saying not enough resources to run, no matter what i tried.

I just put in a Creative Audigy 2 ZS, and everything seems to be working. Aparently there is some issue with the XFI Extreme Gamer, I couldnt find anyone else with the problem, or anyone besides Donnie27 who had any ideas about what to do, but the Audigy 2 is working.

Yea, i did, with a 15 percent restocking fee, hooray for me, but the audigy 2 zs seems to be working great.

i adjusted irq's manually in bios, and removed all non esential, and some esential devices, however nothing worked, i put everything back to normal and installed an Audigy 2 ZS, and it worked fine, so definatly not an IRQ issue. Im thinking perhaps it was a bad card, or incompatible with my system in some way.

Try messing with APIC in bios, go to http://www.google.com and search for your problem. Also make your way over to creative's website and browse their forums its a known issue.

Might require a system reinstall,

If not you might have to RMA the card and try again.

I just bought an X-fi myself and have run into the same problem that you did. It seems some people have fixed the issue by increasing the AGP aperature size in BIOS. Hopefully this helps.

Another unrelated fix for a issue with a Creative soundcard. Another common fix for the famous Crackling soundblaster was setting your PCI latency. Atleast yur Audigy 2 is working...

Yea, i did a bios update, formated and reinstalled, cant remember if i tried the agp thing or not, i dont think i did and that probably wouldve fixed it, but i even called Creative and they never mentioned it, so it must not be to well known yet, lol, theres nothing about acpi in my bois, nothing worked, doesnt matter anymore, i sent it back and got an audigy 2 zs which works perfectly, except i cant get the sound to work for DVD movies, even though i installed the TAD cable,
